fuel for thought

hello all

this is nice to see from the engine makers, and please dont take this wrong.

but its really a sad day when they say 02 and up to b20 what about 01 and down. this is all govt control of the auto makers the govt, epa ,dot ,etc. all are trying to protect big oil by saying this. the only reason its b20 and not b100 is the refinerys cant make yet oh they are working on it but it going to take some time.

there are to many people running b100 in older trucks and in newer trucks to say this wont work. so the govt piles on the paper work to slow it down.

I don't want to see people standing at the fuel pumps thinking what blend of fuel do I need for my truck or car, we dont need three or four or more blends of fuel.

You will have ulsd , ulsd b5, ulsd b20 , ulsd b99 and then b100 then the winter blends then one of the refinerys will do this prem diesel ulsd b20 and we will have 6 different fuels for 02 and newer and even more for older trucks.

stop the B. S. (PLEASE PICK A FUEL AND STAY WITH IT).

we have some 13 different blends of gasoline for this country we dont need to make it so hard!!!!!!!!!!

That was a mouthful. No offense, but did you breathe at any point when you were typing this? I darn near went bug-eyed trying to read it. :D

AKaiser,

Did a search, Next time make sure those post are in the right "Alternate Fuels" topic. Guys like you are why I don't post on this board anymore. Don't need the hassel. Sorry I paid my $35 bucks this year!

My sincere apologies for having offended you, but you're better served both here and in life in general if you follow the following guides:

1. Don't have a thin skin. If you think my reply was offensive, "you ain't seen nothin' yet. " No one is here to intentionally aggravate you. We try to help. We don't always come across in a congenial manner. Written text on the internet doesn't convey emotion or tone very well.

2. Dig deep and don't assume anything, including that the post was put in the topic it should have been or that you assume it would have been. I know, because it happens all the time.

3. Don't assume that you're always right, and the post didn't belong in the topic, or that the post wasn't put under a different topic for other legitimate reasons.

It is my belief that the B20 approval was posted in the 3G engines topic because it pertained to a technical issue with the 3G engine (fuel specifications), as opposed to putting it under alternative fuels where you assumed it should go. See my point?

No harm in posting it in both places. Now it will be easier to find, for those who search the alternate fuel threads for alternate fuels. :-laf

CJ,

While it might be convenient to belive it's all a government conspiracy, it's simply not the case. The oil industry isn't necessarily doing the biodiesel industry any favors, but that's not what is going on here.

All the diesel engine manufacturers have been testing Biodiesel for a while. Here's the short list on why they are not giving it a blanket approval:

1)In recent tests about 80% of all domestically produced Biodiesel failed ASTM tests for oxidative stability. Degraded fuel causes the formation of deposits in the fuel system and gums up injectors. If the fuel supply has problems, it's not going to get approved

2)18 out of 50 B20 Biodiesel samples tested weren't B20. Some had very low Biodiesel concentrations and a couple were almost B100. How can you approve a fuel if you're not ever sure what you're getting?

3) B20 Biodiesel has been found to deplate soft metals inside the fuel injection systems. The overflow valve on my P7100 pump is zinc plated... at least it used to be.

4) In lab tests, B20 ULSD blends are causing combustion chamber deposits at a faster rate than B20 S500, B100 or ULSD alone. These results have not been noticed in the field, but if it happens in the lab the manufacturers want answers as to why before approving a fuel.

If I had to make a guess, I would bet that we're not going to see a long list of diesel fuels available. The smart choice would be to approve a B20 ULSD. Here's why.

Most engine manufacturers are set to approve it, but are not comfortable with higher blends.

B20 ULSD reduces PM(soot) out the tailpipe by 67% when used with a Diesel Particulate Filter like the ones used in 2007 vehicles.

It also lowers the temperature necessary for burnoff to take place. As a matter of fact, it lowers it enough to not require extra fuel. Burnoff can take place under normal driving conditions without having to dump fuel down the exhaust. That can add up to about a 3% fuel savings. Think the manufacturers are interested in that? You bet! Plus the Ford guys can stop setting fire to the neighborhood dogs that chase them. :-laf

Looking for a better example of a government conspiracy? Google "Texas Biodiesel Ban" for some interesting reading. Hmmmm. A state with large oil interests banning a fuel over non-reproducable lab test results. That sounds more like a conspiracy, albeit an obvious one.
