Picked up a 98 QC Dually today for a decent price. Got within about 2 hours of home, pulled off the interstate to get a bite to eat.

Truck didn't want to idle, kept dying on me on the exit ramp.

I two-footed the truck to a parts house to pick up a set of batteries as I knew they were pretty weak (they are gasser-sized batteries).

I went to leave and the truck just died, but wouldn't re-start.

Fuel gauge showed 1/2 of a tank. . I figured the gauge was shot so I had someone run me to a fuel station for a few gallons.

I then dumped those in and the truck ran fine, so I drove to the station and topped the tank off. . Only took 17 gallons. .

I noticed a SMALL drip off the bottom of the tank about 8 inches ahead of the filler neck, but it didn't get faster as it filled up.

I shrugged it off and drove closer to home. . Truck ran fine with no issues. .

As I went to pull off an exit, the truck started the SAME crap again, didn't want to idle and I had to 2-foot it to where I parked it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I'd replace the fuel filter, clean the prefilter screen for starters.

Check fuel pressure. Overflow valve? Rubber fuel lines need to be replaced?

Readjust the idle speed?

Just got to start with the basics, and cheap easy stuff. ;)

Have you tried dumping more fuel in it and seeing whether it clears up again. From your post, it sounds like the problem only occurred when the fuel started to get lower in the tank. Maybe your suction line in the tank is having problems? If not, I think bmoeller suggested a good place to start.

The tank is full to the top. . I have 50 miles tops on the tank.

You may have lost a lot more fuel driving down the high way than you know, or think. If full I would pull filter and replace.
