Hey Guys In The Last Two Weeks I Have Noticed A Growling Sound And A Vibration Coming From My Front End. It Sounds Just Like A Big Mud Tire Growl But I Dont Run Mud Tires I Have All Terrain. It Does This While Turning While Slowing Down Usually The Worst Around 20 Mph. I Never Hear Or Feel It At Highway Speeds. I Rotated The Tires And No Difference. It Causes A Bad Enough Vibration To Feel Through The Steering Wheel And The Floor. Everything Looks And Feels Tight. Any Ideas?

Sounds like a possible front hub bearing or wheel joint. Have you jacked it up and spun the wheels? If you have any rust that appears to be coming out of the wheel u-joints this would be a sure sign that they are bad.

I recommend you check the front wheel bearings (hub bearings) right now. Jack up the front end and give the wheels a good shake. There should be no play in the bearings. If yours is making that much noise then it is likely one of them is very bad. You don't want it to fail on you. The large amounts of cash you will spend fixing it might be the least of your problems is a wheel comes loose at speed.

I Put New Front Hubs And Bearings In About 20k Ago. BUT THE DRIVERS SIDE AXLE U-JOINT HAS NEVER BEEN REPLACED THOUGH IT DOESNT LOOK BAD. IM THINKING OF REPLACING IT AND BALL JOINTS WHILE IM IN THERE.

Good idea about the cross shaft and ball joints although a ball joint wouldn't growl. But don't forget to t/s your power steering. A growl at low speed turning was the first sign I had of low PSF when my latest hydroboost started puking out the PSF!!

Just A Follow Up On This I Rotated The Tires And Put A New U-joint In And The Growling Is Still There. But Here Is What I Find Wierd It Only Does It While Braking And Turning Left. If I Just Turn Left It Doesn't Do It If I Am Going Straight And Use The Brakes It Doesn't Do It. Ball Joints Feel Tight Bearing Is Just A Year Old And It Also Feels Tight. ???????????????????

I get a growl that sounds like the interstate rumble strip, just not as pronounced, at 60 MPH give or take. Goes away over 65 and under 55. Any ideas?

ASimpson, since you have powersteering assisted brakes, the common point is either the power steering pump or the steering box. There is a pressure regulator and screen in the PS pump that could be bad, (eg regulator weak for low pressure, or screen clogged for low flow). There is info on the PS pump at this link: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69047&page=1&pp=15

Akaiser: There is a driveline vibration issue discussed here: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136233&highlight=vibration
