After 4 LP's on my 01, I relented and let them put the in tank in. I have had zero problems. Have about 40k on it now, some pulling a 34ft Montana 5 er.

WHAT SAY YOU?????

I think I have only heard of one or two actual intank pump failures in all the reading I have done since they came out as the replacement... the pump itself seems pretty durable...

We still don't know what the long term consequences are of the VP44 at those slightly lower pressures (I know they claim volume is the key).

Mine has been on for 9000 miles. 9 lbs idle, 6 lbs cruising unloaded, 4 lbs cruising loaded with 7000 lb trailer, 1 lb pedal to the floor towing.

Something is just not quite 10 = 10 on these things.

The VP44 calibration psi is 13. 5 psi regardless of the volume.

So what makes it ok to provide 6 psi regardless of the volume? I still do not understand that.

The diaphram in the VP44 still is only good to flex . 5mm (about 3 psi) without dammage to the seals. So why is 1 psi ok?

Sorry to be a pessimist - but probably for the same reason DC used the Carters - it's the best available solution for the $$$ at this point - it's about dollars and what they hope is a REASONABLE (not PERFECT!) "fix" for a known problem... ;)

I am getting ready to replace a friends V44 because the intank pump did not flow enough and it trashed the pump. So from my perspective, it's not worth much.

Couple questions:

How many miles on the intank pump??

Was the VP44 replaced when the intank pump was installed???

I've got 5k on my in tank pump and no problems yet. Of coarse I didn't care for the 8 psi at idle and 1 psi at wot so I installed a Carter 4600 (7psi) to boost the output to 15 psi at idle and 13 running down the road. We'll see how long this setup lasts.

There is only 45K on it and it is an 01. No the v44 wasn't replaced. They just installed the intank pump and thats it. Now the thing will not start after it warms up. Will when it hasn't warmed up but after it's warm, nada starta.

I'll bet you NEVER have a problem with that setup - at least the Carter part of it! ;)
