What can I build with my budget?

What will I be able to build for $10,000? This is my budget for parts and labor. If possible, I would like moderate to high hp/tq and still be streetable. The truck is an 04. 5 2500 4x4 automatic used to tow horse trailers by my wife so driveability is a big concern. The only mods so far are a TST and aFe stage 2. $10,000

-$6000 for a reliable transmission at that power (choose your company)

-$2000 turbo/manifold set up (62/12 or 62/14 turbo, ATS manifold. )

-$500 for a fuel system (Glacier)

=

$1500 left over to cover labor charges.



If money is left over, buy a programmer for the truck.

I would agree with the first guy but think his labor figure is way low. At the current rate of 65-80 buck/hour, that 1500 will not go that far. The transmission thing is one of those issues no one wants to touch till it's needed, and if your going to be towing much, that week little 48RE wont be around for long. Just keep your money, if it's in cash form, and wait till the auto expires then have what you want done while it's in the shop.

I was going to say leave it stock and go by a motorcycle for that rocket ship feeling, but I see I am already to late since you have a TST.

If it's a manual transmission, $1500 - 2400 for a good single or double disk clutch (labor included here).



$6K for an automagic transmission now a days? I thought it was more near $4K with converter.

my billet DTT was $7 grand. All depends on what you want to do with the truck.



I said $6000 just to be safe. $6000 worth of transmission should hold very well unless he is doing boosted launches. At that point, full billet required.

Mabye insane, but I have over $7,000 in mine with TC, Full Billet trans and flexplate installed. Might be able to get by with $4,000, but it would limit the hp/torque that could be safely put to the ground.

If your wife is going to be driving it, and towing horse trailers, get gauges, and teach her how to use them. If she isn't going to be drag racing, or sled pulling, just get a torque convertor, and valve body, for the transmission. You can see what I have in my sig. The VB, and TC, are working for me just fine, and I tow occasionally with this truck. Add a fuel pump, Smarty, and a 62 series turbo, and you'll have a really nice combo for towing, and daily driving. And you'll still have money left over.

With that money you should be able to make one good towing truck that will run hard and strong. If you stay in the 400+ hp range you will be able to get away with valve body ,servoese and tc. If you want peace of mind go a full built trans. Do some shoping i have around 4 in my full built dtt. I did do over half the work my self valve body, servoes ect. It was a two part project. Find a good turbo for towing with that horse trailer or a small set of towing twins when set up right are the best of both worlds. Run a good cam to widen the power curve and lower egts. 4" exhaust and a good air intake. If set up right you should be able to make over 500+ with the wick turned up.
