Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Blue smoke

I have a friend that has the Dodge 2001 with the cummins 24v, problem is when running at about 1500 rpm truck will lose all power, then after pumping the gas pedal and after the blue smoke roles and the rpm come up to 21-2200 rpm all is well? This may happen today and may not happen again for days or even a week? thanks in advance.

Have him check for codes by turning the key on three times leaving it on the third time. Watch the OD display for codes. Po216 is probably going to show up and he is going to be buying a new VP44 injection pump. SNOKING
