I finally found a way to stop the smoke cloud I get when I leave stop lights, especially with it on higher settings and pulling a trailer. If raise the rpms to 1100 for a second, take my foot back off the throttle and take off like normal I get no smoke. Oo. Im assuming that im prespooling the turbo just enough to eliminate turbo lag. I just thought Id mention it in case this helps anybody else. If I had known this Id have been doing this all along. I feel so bad when I smoke out people on the sidewalk.

BTW, The fuel econo setting is awsome. The smarty is going to pay for itself! :D 21. 2MPG on my last tank. ( all HWY) I didnt think it was possible with the jammers. Been gettin mid 18s with mixed city/hwy.

Ever watch your boost gauge when you do this? I lose almost all boost between shifts. I'm pretty self-conscious about smoking, so I just start in 1st gear if I want a smokeless launch. If I want a quicker launch, I have to start in 2nd and puff a bit. When towing, I always start in 1st.

It's allot easier on your clutch to use 1st towing. I always do unless of course I'm facing downhill or want to **** someone off behind me:D

I know that 1st gear will give a smokless launch but its so slow. If I idle it high (1100rpm) for 10 seconds before I take off I can get on it pretty hard and still have a smokeless launch. It launches harder too.

When I tow heavy I always use 1st but if Im light and I need to get out into traffic I use second. When I do this I fully expect smoke though.

It would be nice to have a software available that didn't add extra fuel until 5LBS of boost so we could control smoke better for towing. I only tow on SW3 and if not careful the road gets darkened:eek:

Even with my Smarty on #2, and Comp on 1x1, I can lay out a MASSIVE cloud from a dead stop - especially if sitting for a bit, such as at a stoplite!

I'll try your method and see what it does for my "Mosquito abatement" problem... :-laf

John, ditto on that. I have to be very gentle on the go pedal with my camper load. Delayed fueling would be great.

I purposely run my Smarty/Comp combo on their lowest setting to AVOID excessive fueling - but am regularly embarrassed by the HUGE cloud of black smoke I leave at intersections TRYING to leave gently after a stoplite - I very literally black out the whole intersection, and ONE of these day's there's gonna be a Cop in one of the vehicle lines...:eek:

Smoke.

Smoke is just unburnt fuel to me and@$3. 09/gal. here I don't need it. I just returned from a short run up to 5900' in our local mts. and with Smarty on SW#1 and reasonable throttle control, this truck emits less smoke than my '99 did w/EZ & Mach 1. 6's. Marco's done a good job cracking the D/C ECM safeguards engineered into them. Van Aaken e-mailed me that they don't have a product available yet for the '07 5. 9's. They said it was extremely complex. Just a little delayed response until boost comes up would be nice though. I'd take the hit in instant response, for a little better smoke control. ;)

Gary,

Is this towing or solo? I can drive my truck completely smoke free unless I have my foot more than half way into the go pedal. This is with the Smarty on 2 and my Comp on 1x1. With these settings, I only get a slight haze with my foot buried.

Either way, doesn't matter - If I get the LEAST bit rushed on takeoff, a LARGE billow of smoke is the result - I'll be driving the truck later today and will try the suggestion offered in the lead post, and see if that helps. Once underway, smoke is quite minimal, even on fairly hard acceleration. And my turbo seems to be spooling as it always has...

It didn't use to do this - seems to have started after downloading and installing the latest software upgrade from Marco's website.

It's almost like the 2-stroke Suzuki from my motorcycle days, that would "load up" on fuel at idle - then smoke heavily the first 100 feet or so on takeoff from a stop...

Gary, when did you last update your Smarty? Mine was last updated around January if I remember correctly. I have to change my first post about smoke free with anything less than half throttle. Today I was hauling wood and it was 80 and humid. I was able to get a light haze while accelerating with a quarter throttle, but nothing from a takeoff unless I takeoff in 2nd and let the clutch out very quick and have the idle governor keep the truck from killing.

I think that's about when I did mine as well - might try reloading the original Smarty program just to test it out - someone claimed that it's not possible to go back to an earlier Smarty program without problems?

Bob?
