Guess the cause of the problem.
Problem:Harmonic vibrating noise eminating only from the NV4500 shifter; seem like it came right up the and out the knob. Intermittenly, at idle, and constant at cruise speeds. Load or no load had not significant bearing on noise. By just holding the knob, the noise is absorbed.
-Shifter and knob are tight.
--Truck shifts perfect, clutch is new, transmission is less than 10K.
--Checked transfer in low/high/4WD and no bearing on problem. Lubed drive shafts and checked; no negligible wear. Correct angles.
--Nothing is touching the engine or transmission to transfer vibration. Mounts are good.
--Fluids are right level and clean.
The amount of vibration is about normal for a Cummins 12V.
Continued to check problem over 5K miles, could not find culprit.
Found it.
Guess what it was. :-laf
