First off guys, this is my first post.

The issue that I am having is that my truck wants to run a little on the hot side, I have seen it at 212 on my Attitude. It only wants to do this when I am going down the hiway and pulling hills, this is all with no load, I have taken it inot the dealership a couple of times and they said that there is nothing wrong. I have never heard the clutch fan kick in but they say that it tachs out fine per their specs.

I ahve checked the coolant and made sure that the radiator is not plugged and it all looks good.

Sorry, my truck is a 04. 5 automatic 4x4 with afe stage 1 MBRP 4" and no cat. Also running Edge Juice w/ Attitude monitor.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated if you all know of a problem, if there is no problem and I am just running it to hard if there is such a thing with no load then let me know.

I have an 05 and on my attitude monitor my temp record is always at about 235 it has been that way since day one. I think they run them a little hotter for emmisions. I don't think there is any problems.

Thanks much, I kinda figues but I hate to burn down an enginge for not knowing. I had also heard that if a cummins goes over 210 there is an issue, my Attitude backed this theory up and kinda got me scared. Thanks again for the help

When I checked my factory gauge calibration to the DRBIII on my first two trucks they were spot on compared to the actual engine temp sensor that the PCM looks at. If your dash gauge does not match the Attitude, have the dealer hook up the DRBIII and compare the two sensors. I would believe the sensor the engine controller sees, which is also the sensor the cluster uses to set the needle.

Mine will run 194* pretty much all the time on my edge w/att. Maybe go up a few * running it harder. My record only show 209 and that was after a sled pull.

This thread is perfect timing. I pulled the camper (12k) this weekend and I thought the engine temps were getting a tad warm. About 218 on the outlook. This was pulling 5-6 degrees for 8 mi's, 5th gear,60-70 mph. I do have a sc flashpaq set on tow mode.

I pulled these same hills last year and I do not recall ever getting past 208. I did not notice the fan clutch engaging. How do you tell if it is bad? Thanks.

Per my experiences (as well as the few guys around here that I asked), I cannot recall being able to tell when the fan clutch "kicked in" and "out" from in the cab. If I understand the fan operation correctly, it is similar to the old viscous clutches in that it is progressively engaged. This leads me to believe that you will not feel it kick in or out. Rather, it speeds up and slows down progressively per the signal from the ECM, which is based on engine coolant temperatures obviously.

If I am wrong, someone please correct me. Mine runs consistently under 210 both on the Attitude and per the factory gage.

Mine reads exactly like yours, I've only hit 212-214 once or twice running hard on the highest Edge setting pulling a grade. But 194 is norm and 209 is about the highest it gets under normal operation.

On the 05's, the fan clutch is electric like the a/c compressor, it is either engaged or not. These cabs are insulated very well, I can here mine occasionally when I have the radio off.

I've never heard mine on this truck, my old truck you could hear in the next county.

Talked to a Dodge deisel mechanic today. He says that the ulsd fuel is the cause of the higher engine temps. What do ya think?

In my last post here i reported that my temp was running at about 235 on my edge attitude. Well i installed my S&B air box system a few weeks ago and while doing so i discovered that the puke line from the radiator to the overflow was slightly vinked around the AC plumbing. It was from the factory this way. Well i rerouted it and now my high temp is running at 190. I just thought i would toss this out there so if you are having temp problems check that hose. It may solve your problems.

I had a similar issue with temperatures creeping up. I flushed the system with fleetguard cleaner (available at cummins dealer), replaced the thermostate with stock cummins thermostate, and refilled with 50/50 fleetguard antifreeze. It runs about 15-20 degrees cooler now, similar to when it was new. The orginal antifreeze looked pretty dirty after only 60k miles.
