I probably need a new system from cat back since it rotted off behind the muffler. They may be able to fix it but I have doubts. I'm thinking about upgrading and I need some place around Anchorage that does 4" systems. Anybody know of one? I'm too old/decrepit to try doing these things anymore.

When my wife and I were there last summer I spoke to someone who spoke highly of Muffler City, 105 W 5th, (907) 279-0408. You can also call the Dodge dealer, for additional recommendations to a good muffler shop. Whatever you do, stay away from Midas Muffler as most are crooks.

Muffler City is terrible! Expensive and hit or miss on their work.

I don't think anyone can bend 4" tubing in Alaska, so it will be a kit.

Give the guys at 5 Star Auto on Lake Otis a call. Kurt and Dan are great guys.

Well, that's good to know. I never used them. I was thinking about a muffler shop when we were in Anchorage because the exhaust broke loose on my campers generator, but I fixed it with bailing wire. Muffler City were highly recommended.

Muffler city is a fair shop. I would just supervise the work if possible. For just bolting on an exhaust system, they should do o. k. Jim's muffler and auto repair used to be a decent shop as well. Good Luck.

:confused:So if I were to supervise the work, what would I be watching for?

Muffler City is hit and miss on their work and customer service is pretty poor. I'm not sure how they stay in business to be honest. I have no personal vendetta with them or anything, just saying how it is.

Jim's Muffler is a great shop, but I heard they closed. Would be worth giving them a call to find out though.

Any auto/muffler shop can bolt on a kit exhaust. I recommended 5 Star Auto since Kurt and Dan are great guys with a really fair price. They are on Lake Otis

Also there is Underground Performance, I can't remember what street that's on (opened up not that long ago). A fellow named Nick runs it. He's a great guy and is very into diesel performance.

If you all are wondering, I lived in Anchorage for 4 years, moved to Idaho at the end of 05.

What makes you say this about Muffler City?

Just buy the attitude they had the couple times I went there, info from friends, and also looking at work done by them.

Went to muffler city and had a turbo back 4" system put in. Very impressed with them. They let me watch and answered any questions. They actually asked me to come under the truck while they were working on it to show me what they were doing. Even fixed a loose dust boot on my brake at no charge.

Of course the work hasn't stood the test of time but they get high marks on customer friendliness.
