Air not blowing out the vents...any of them.

On my way back to work from lunch (in stop and go 90 degree sun#@$%!) the air quit coming out the vents. I can hear the fan motor buzzing along doing its thing, but no air is coming out the vents. No matter what direction I turn the knob, nothing comes out. It is like the directional doors behind the dash all closed up.



Has anyone had a similar experience with a 3rd Gen?

I had the same thing happen in my 05 2500. It turned out to be the control panel. The fan switch is separate from the temp and vent switches which are microprocessor controlled. The computer in that control panel quit.



Mine was covered under warranty but the part is about $100 and it's about a 10 minute job to change.

That, or you had the evaporator freeze up and block flow across it. Mine did that when it was a bit low on charge. Park it for a bit (1/2 hr) and see if it comes back.

Push your AC button, you know, the one that illuminates. Turn the temp to the middle, not hot, not cold, in order to melt the ice off the condensor. If this is the issue your air will start to blow in a matter of minutes, then you can push the AC button again, and readjust your temp. I was told correctly, by BOB4x4 that I needed to top off the AC system to cure the issue



Topping off is easy as walking into your local Wally Mart and grabbing a bottle R34.

On 2nd generation trucks the temp door has been known to break and block off air flow.

But I would check the evaporator freezing up first.

By "coolant", I take it you mean freon, correct? Alot of the first 3rd gens came through low on everything from freon to axle lube and anything else D/C could save a penny on !

Add me to the "low on freon from the factory" club. After I topped it off, it never happened again.



Follow Lorenz's advice. If it doesn't clear up, then take it to the dealer.

I tried to let it sit, then tried to run the unit with the heat on and the A/C off and nothing worked. I droped it at the dealer. Hopefully they will get it taken care of. I have to make a run to Florida.

Mine just did the same thing. How do you know how much to "top it off" with? I ain't no dipstick, but I couldn't find one for the A/C.

Had the same thing happen last week on my way to work. After work everything was back to normal. I do have a defective Fan Clutch assembly that's on back order. Don't think they're related issues.

On my 05 1500... the internal door/flap broke. A tech can remove the glove box door and wiggle something under there to tell if this is the case. It falls down in the airbox and blocks the fan. In this case the fan gets real loud cause its deadheading. Sometimes the floor vents will still blow hard.



My dealer played games with mine and replaced all kinds of controls and sensors. They were amazed when I walked back in after the repairs and said my problem existed. I guess they don't check the work. Because after all the replaced sensors/controls... it still didn't blow out the dash vents. Pretty easy to check after a repair in my opinion. So a different tech overheard me complaining about the fact that the so called repair was unsuccessful... and said he'd just repaired a broken door so he could fix mine too. Funny how they had a truck in with the same problem and mine seemed a mystery. My fan was so loud at one point it vibrated the seats.



Half day job and the dash has to come out.

Mine is at the dealer to get the broken door fixed. I cant tell you how much i hate the dealer. They wanted me to remove my gauges from the a pillar and my trailer brake control and my air bag guage from the center console before they would fix anything. There claim was they were all in the way and the tech did not want to be responsible if broken.



I went down there and explained how you could leave everything hooked up and just move the panels out of the way. I told him i would be happy to come show him how if he was afraid. I guess that embarressed him because he suddenly decided he could do it.

They just did my "little door". I cant tell any difference. Mine blows cold air just fine but very little air movement.



When i have it set on the vents i can still feel a little air on the floor boards. Is this normal? When you guys have the air set to the vents does a little air still come out of the floor vents?

My air seems to be blowing fine now. However, I have a new rattle behind the dash. Back to the dealer on Monday. The tech said "gee, must have left something loose". No I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER, you think?

The thought of tearing into a dash to fix something always scares me for fear it will result in rattles or squeaks Hope they get it taken care of, what a PITA it would be if they have to tear it all apart again. If I remember right replacing this HVAC door requires significant disassembly?

Whatever the level of disassembly, it takes about 3 hours for a tech who has done it before. Thats my experience. When they finally decided what was wrong with mine (after not listening to me forever)... they actually did a good job. The dash comes apart quickly. And I have no squeaks, scratches or dings in the interior.



I don't have air blowing out the floor when my dash is on. My vents feel like 4 hairdryers blowing on high. Like it originally was. It will freeze you out. When my dash vents are on... you will definately FEEL them.
