Here is the problem... ..... 7000-10000 miles an occasional miss on cylinder #2... ... Dealer does a cylinder drop test and verifies issue... . DC won't issue an injector cause all of the other tests are a go..... truck rattles like a harley? Dealership Owner needs his boat fixed and comes to see me... ... ... ... ... I can't verify concern... ... ... ... you guessed it, I got a shiny new injector! Now it's dropping #5 when warm on a restart? What the hell is up with all of these injector failures that I've been reading about? I actually work the crap out of my truck and use Cummins/Valvoline injector cleaner quite regular... ... . First they tell me it needs a fuel filter even though I just changed it 12 hours and 17 miles prior to the visit:confused: I know that we have an issue with dirty nozzles and my question that comes to mind is: Will a set of extrude honed nozzles help this situation? Thanks!

No kind of injector will last if it has junk getting past the filter. Use the 7 micron Mopar if your stock, and change it often. If you think you might have something in the tank you better drop it and clean it out. Mine cost $5500 to clean and fix on the 06. This stuff is not cheap, and it does not like contamination!

save your self the hassel and buy a fass with 2 micron filtration, you cant beat it.

What will that 2 micron filter set up do to your warranty? Its hard enought to get most dealers to fix stuff if everything is stock.

As soon as my warranty is up I will be installing a 2 micron set up, the new 7 mircon filter is a joke. The truck should have 2 micron from the factory.

You are very right about the factory filter being enadequate. I would install a 2 or 3 micron system like the Fass or AirDog now. Your fuel system will be much more reliable down the road.

Anyway, has anybody had better luck with extrude hone nozzles? My issue has been with funked up nozzles on the outside of the tip, not debris or contamination. I can disassemble the tips and clean them and they work better for a while but any idle time soots them up. Thanks

What exactly did you repair/replace for $5500 on your 06?

Got a bad load of fuel and ran it with the filter plugged because "I had to get to work". Replaced the first filter on the road and didn't clean all the gunk from the bottom of the filter housing. Doing that was the downfall as the gunk is now on the clean side of the system. That takes out the pump which takes out the injectors, and all the while the return flow is sending metal particles to the lift pump, and the process starts all over again. Once the filter gets mostly plugged the lift pump can still push 9 micron and smaller particles past the filter, and on it goes. Within a week it was sticking the injectors open and knocking like crazy.

Cleaned tank, replaced lift pump, CP3, rail, tubes, and six injectors. Lucky it did not melt a piston.

Very expensive lesson learned.

Did you drain the filter housing before changing that filter. I don't see how any gunk on the dirty side could get to the filtered side if there was no fuel in the canister when installing a new filter.

That could have been most of your problem.

I do agree we need better filtration than the 7 micron Chrysler corp is giving us.

Bueller... ... ... ... ... ... ... . Bueller... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Bueller? Anybody out there running extrude hone nozzles on a cr? I just want to know if injector life is extended by not sooting up externally.
