Im looking for the best intercooler for the money. I would also like to now presure drop. Egt drop. Ect. I have read about alot of people saying they have them but no feed back.

I use Joe Hellmans intercooler. Upon installation I noticed a honest 120 degree drop in max egt's and picked up 3-4 lbs. of boost.

I have a Banks kit on mine, I don't know if it's the best for the money since BD's intercooler is cheaper but I don't believe it comes with an intake horn. I noticed a noticeable bottom end gain when pulling my trailer and around a 150degree drop in EGT's which was very much needed. It's one of the better mod's to do in my opinion since it's a noticeable gain unlike a lot of other add-on parts I've put on.

This is something I am going to do as well, I like the Spearco, but I might be sold on a Hogan intercooler, a friend has one and says its awesome, looking into it... ...

Not many places give the specs on a cooler. I don't think there is a huge benefit with this mod but it's on my list of wanna do's any way. It would be nice if they would post the specs for each cooler. I'm sorta leaning towards the BD but the Spearco may be a good choice too.

Not really any helpful info but maybe someone knows a site for some real specs.

hmmmmm

Not that it should matter to you,... but I sure disagree about the value of an intercooler.

The oem is rated around 30psi and people run it at 40psi and sometimes more. What will happen is you get pin holes of leakage over time running at higher psi. They are not made for what we're using them for. All of these upgraded units are I believe good for over 100psi. Now,... you still can't see the value??

It is unfortunate that the IC manufacturer's don't publish specs. Still, based on what the do publish I went with the Spearco. It's huge, and the bar and plate construction is different than all the others that I am aware of, and it seems like a better way to build an intercooler. I did a camshaft at the same time as my intercooler, and saw an easy 300 degree EGT drop. Not sure how much was the Spearco and how much was the cam, but I'm very pleased. I think it was well worth the money.

For $1500 or so no, there isn't much noticeable gain in performance. For longevity, maybe some. It has to be better than stock but when you are talking about adding performance, a programmer will get you a huge difference for half the price.

As long as you didn't get the plastic tanks as on the '05's I think the stocker will hold more than 30 psi as well.

For some of us, performance is pulling a 5 mile 6% grade with 15,000 pounds and not being EGT limited. That kind of performance upgrade is why I'm interested in an intercooler. I've not seen too many programers that reduce EGTs under heavy loads for long periods. Maybe I missed it! :)

I hope everyone keeps up the info. I fell it is a good up grade. It will be part of a total package in the end. If you get everything working together you will make more reliable power in the end. I am looking at a intercooler capable of handeling 80+ psi. I feel that should keep me in a safe zone in the future. You are never done trying to make power just out of money!:{

ABSOLUTELY! :-laf

And a concept lost on the stoplite-to-stoplite and dragstrip warriors!

USABLE power that's readily available for long-term application, with no worries when you have the truck loaded with the family, towing heavy, and the nearest tow truck or service shop is hundreds of miles away... ;):D

i run the bank intercooler that comes with plumbing from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to their intake horn. I really like the kit wiht exception to the added weight, the fact that its so big it rubs in some places but thats prolly cuz my mom used my truck and hit a deer and I havent fixed the damage with exception to installing the banks technicooler. so a truck that has been hit really hard I would not reccomend the banks intercooler for its just too tight of a fit. another thing I liked was the banks plumbing was bigger and had much smoother bends for better flow.

I sell the banks kits and I will only say that my truck will get either the BD or the Spearco unit. I have seen vary favorable results from both, and its my feeling that these are the best flowing and most effective units for the cost.

jbee,i have the same truck, but have the banks tuner, exhaust, new air intake. i also tow a fifth wheel that is about 13,000 lbs,i have been debating if it is worth the money to change the stock to a banks intercooler, did you really see that much of a change when you did install after you had your other mods in place, interested in your response to this question, most people on the foruem thinks that it is a lot to spend for what you get out of it.
