2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission DAsh removal

I am in the process of removing the dash in my 2000 dodge, not bad up until I got to disconnecting A wiring harness that goes thur the fire wall and has several connectors then goes to the fuse box on the side of the dash? My service manual does not address this, I can't see how to disconnect this in order to remove the dash from truck.



Has anyone with the 2000 run into this.

As info, the instrument panel has to be removed in order to remove the heater/ac housing in order to remove the evaporator coil, another words... it has to be removed from the cab of the truck period.



Again, has anyone with a 2000 done this? Just need to know how the wiring harness was disconnected?

I'm not sure that you have to remove the dash. Post #8 in this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/2nd-generation-ram-forum-no-engine-transmission-discussions/103489-c-evaporator-replacement.html suggests that the dash only needs to be loosened and pulled back. I replaced the heater core in my 2000 Ram this past winter without removing the dash. Somewhere I have a list of bolt locations and the removal sequence needed to loosen and pivot the dash.

The dash has to be removed from the truck in order to remove the heater/ac housing which is where you will find the heater core/ac evaporator, the housing also has to come out to allow the housings top and bottom to be seperated and then the evaporator can be removed.



Nevertheless I found the 3 connectors, they were behind the fuse box.

Nope!!!! it does not need to be removed... ... ... ..... I have done many of all years :-laf:-laf

Yup im with bob, none of our techs completely remove the dash to do the job. Just have to work with it and rotate it saves a heck of a lot of time!

Sorry,the dash does have to come out, the housing that the heater core and evaporator core is in has to be removed from the fire wall, turned upside down so all 14 screws can be removed and the part taken out.



If I was to do this again, it could be done from start to finish in 3-4 hours taking my time and by the book.

You dont need to remove the DASH

last year I had the misfortune to have the evap core go on me from crud that had collected and rotted the bottom of the unit.

The local rad & AC shop let me take these photos, I took 46 in all, of the job here are the ones showing how to access the HVAC unit.

I have had many good idea's come from these forums and I just want to see people get the benefit of my experiences also.

Just because the dodge manual says so, there are other ways to get around it. IF all the AC shops had to take the dash out compleltely they would be charging 1/2 as much again.

I've taken the dash out of my '95 a few times. It's not that big of a deal. Sure beats the struggle to get at things behind it with the dash inside. Lots easier if you take the seats out. I can do it myself in less than an hour.

Big Bob, you have not a clue! I've done it and now could do it without the ill help from one like you in 3-4 hrs, its not the big deal its made out to be.
