does anybody know if it would their be a problem running my edge ez on setting #2 if im towing. usually tow on #1, booklet says that you can tow on 1 or 2. truck is 05-ho, stock other than edge. boat and all is about 4300 lbs, just dont want any bs codes to pop up. thanks

Do you have an EGT gauge? That is the easiest way to know what you should and should not do. That boat is a pretty light load for the truck and if you aren't pulling it through the mountains it should be OK. Anytime you alter the fuelling though, I would want a gauge to watch, to ensure I didn't melt some pistons:eek: Anything less is a gamble, setting codes would be the least of my concerns.

On my 04 I have done a lot of miles on Level 3, pulling 15K. Like BHolm says, you really need an EGT gauge. On some of the steepest grades, EGTs became limiting and I would back off some or downshift into 5th if the speeds were lower. My sweet spot is 2,200 RPM when pulling heavy and hard.

from what i understand if i install an egt gauge im opening a can of worms if down the road i have any warranty problems. considering all the nightmares i read about in these forms. how hard is it to install a egt gauge?

Pulling 6,000 about 95% of the time, I have found that the egts are lower on 2 than on 1. On 3 they go through the roof. I pulled a 20,000 lb training trailer for the fire department once and had no issues what so ever. The outside temp was in the 20's.

As far as the gauges go, install some stand alone units in one of the many gauge pods that are available out there. DC should not give you any grief for wanting to keep informed on how your engine is running as long as nothing is tampered with during the install ( like tapping wires, and such ).

I did not have EGT guage on my 06 and ran the fool out of it up and down the Blue Ridge on #3. Most of the time I was in low gear on the 48re. Usually you don't have overheating problems in the lower gears. When I towed from NC to CO. 18 months ago with my 04. 5 with TST I saw EGTs get high going thru Kansas on 70. I could tell the TST on 3&4 would defuel on those very long grades.

I do recomment a guage if you are towing.

Adding gages will void a warranty, but adding an EZ won't

not looking for problems later on. having gauges would make most dealer suspicious i would assume. i dont pull big weights like some members, just have box for a little added torque. have pulled all winter with snowmobile trailer and 2 sleds, was always on 1, but its usually alot colder temps, not a heat wave like this coming sunday.

Are You Telling Me To Ditch The Ez Because I'll Be Having Problems Later By Not Having A Egt Gauge Or For Eventually Having Warranty Issues. I Thought That The Ez Was Pretty Much Undetectable. Like I Said I Normally Keep It On 1-(95 % Of The Time ). Only Have Switched It To 2 On Ocassion To Clean It Out.

I guess what I'm saying is ... ... ...

Gages won't void a warranty, but an EZ will. Your not willing to run gages, but are willing to run an EZ. Do you see how backwards that is?

I think you bought your warranty as soon as you put the EZ on it.

There used to be a saying around here with modified trucks ... ... ... .

"I am my own warranty station"

I think that has kind of gotten lost here with the Smarty and undetectability, and TDR has sort of embraced the ability to hide mods from the dealer.

But anyway, I think you are kind of foolish for running an EZ without gages.

JHARDWICK -obviously your truck is completly stock? no mods, stock tires, stock exhaust, stock air filter. i'm not trying to mislead anyone, truck has been to the dealer only once in 27,682 miles ( last week )for flapper in ductwork. if other members are telling me i should get a egt gauge then thats what i'll do. i'll ask my dealer if theirs any problem and get it done . AND I DONT BELEIVE THAT ANYONE SHOULD ATTEMPT TO PREACH TO OTHER MEMBERS ABOUT THE ILLIGITEMENCY OF USING MODS.

Heck no, but I never burned a hole in a piston and removed the mods so that it'd be covered under warranty either.

i'm not trying to mislead anyone,

You are if you want to mod your truck without the dealer knowing it and voiding your warranty.

Ask him about the EZ too?

No need to yell.

It's your truck, mod it if you want.

What I have a problem with is the fact that you are openly setting yourself up to hide mods form the dealer if the engine should fail.

Prove to me that warranty fraud doesn't effect the price of my next truck and I'll butt out.

The Problem Is I Dont Remember Asking For People Like You Giving Me Morale Advice, At Any Time. If You Cant Reply To The Specific Question That I Asked Without Trying To Impose Your Will, Then See Your Way Out Of This Post.

No, the problem is, you posted your intentions in a public forum on the World Wide Web. So, until you start a website with your own private forum, I'll be more than happy to guide you morally.

:-laf Your tip toeing around about an EZ and maintaining warranty, and I'm no Dodge man? BOMB that thing and eat your warranty.

This is the only truck forum I frequent, and I'm not complaining about my warranty ... ... ... . I've got 320,000 miles on my truck. I had close to 200,000 miles on my '99 24 valve ... ... ... ... whats not Dodge with that?

I stuck an EZ on this truck before it had 5,000 miles on it, and my dealer new it. Heck it was the original 6 position EZ is how long ago that was. He never said a word about it, but I'm sure if I puked a turbo or burned a piston that it'd been on my dime.

I'm sorry if you fail to see why I'm concerned about you getting in my pocket with fraudulent warranty claims.
