The combination of exhaust gas recirculation and the possibility of getting some non-ULSD fuel into the system has me wondering about adding one of the oil bypass systems to my truck.

Have other folks installed these? Opinions on brands (FS-2500, AMSOIL, other, etc. )?

I like the bypass systems , but the prices are too high , get used , then I think that the tolet paper systems may be cheaper to by new , then there is the idea that this is a long term payback , keep the truck a long time [ 300,000 miles + ] .

Hi Mark:

I have been thinking about the same thing and also adding an additional fuel filter. The FS2000 is very pricey and the Amsoil appears to have better filtration at a much reduced cost.

yep, both of these addtional filters are very high on my list. Not a lot of room under the hood of the 6. 7L! Not sure where to stuff these!

bypass

The way that I see it is WHAT CAN IT HURT. So i installed one 20,000 miles ago and I love it. I think it is a necessity if you are running any tuners that add fuel. I ran 15,000 miles on my oil with the smarty turned up on #9. at 15,000 miles the soot was high enough that I needed to change the oil and filter. If i did not have the bypass I would have been lucky to get 6,000 miles out of the oil on that setting. Good luck

I just thought I would bring this back up. I have been talking to filtration solutions about the fs-2500. Seems it is frame mounted and returned through an oil cap provided has anyone installed one yet and what are your opinions of the install.

Agreed. Whatever type/brand you go with, as long as you use good fittings, hose, and some sort or "restrictor" device to keep bypass flow to a minimum so you dont drop oil pressure to the top end, what can it hurt? Especially with power adders, egr valves, etc, that all add more soot into the oil, I would think one is almost a necessity if you plan on keeping your engine wear down.

Then again, there's always the change your oil & oem filter every 3k miles method but 3k miles comes fast and is alot of money in oil and filters (unless you burn it as fuel). And, some people think that is "taboo". (give it to me Ill take it)
