towing mirror

my dad has a 06 mega cab. yeterday i was backing up a little to close when my mirror hit his and i kracked the glass on it. the ? is where or can i just find the glass and not replace the whole mirror assembly? they are factory towing mirrors.

Bad news. That was a $400 oops. I had a drunk driver take mine off last summer. The glass is not available separately. You will be replacing the entire assembly.



Sorry to have to tell you that but better to know now than to spend a huge amount of time looking for a non-existent part.

The glass is now available from chrysler, if you can give me the last 8 of the VIN I will look it up and give you a price, also, if you can get the part number off the mirror that would be great as some are differant. Glass is available for NON power mirrors also, but I can not garontee they fit the 2nd gen mirrors YET. I am ordering one today to see if it fits mine (spotter mirror fell out, damn thing) so I will let you know tomorrow.

do you have a price on the main glass for the powered heated fold out towing mirrors? or an approximation at least?

It comes as an assembly with the main glass and spotter mirror im ordering just to pull off the spotter and put it on my orig. main glass. There are two diff. heated glasses, one with the spotter mirror that is heated (has a wire going to it) and one without and they do vary per side also, looking at anywhere from about 32-60 bucks. If you do want to order from me PM your vin and if it is heated or non heated spotter and we can work on a price.

Basically take off the door panel, loosen 3 nuts (10mm?) and disconnect the wiring harness. Mine was done in under 15 minutes from the time I signed the work order to the time they were handing me the keys. I think they may have held up the truck in the back to give me time to sign all the paperwork.

If I remember right, you need a #2 Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm socket or combo wrench.

Remove phillips head screw in triangle-shaped plastic inside door.

Pull top edge back and you will probably see a nut and a sponge-like foam thingy.

Remove the nut and move the foam up to find the lower nut and remove it too. (don't drop them or you might have to open the inside of the door)

Unplug the wire harness

Last nut is forward and not covered. Open window so you can hold the mirror as you remove the last nut.

I pulled off my tow mirrors and put on the standard ones in about 15 minutes the other day. My left mirror is sort of loose in the head and I want to see if I would miss the tow mirrors enough to fix it, or just stick with the old ones.

I don't like how far the tow mirrors stick out when folded in. ATMs seem to be further away, the garage is narrower (shoulda put in 10' wide doors not 9' DOHH!) and they aren't as steady.

The standard mirrors don't have the convex bubbles in the corners, though. I never really looked at them, but I'm noticing their absense.

Install is pretty much the reverse order.

You can get the glass thru just about any glass repair shop. It comes double sided so it fits on either side. Silicon adhesive on one side and you're good to go. I think mine cost about $23. It's been on there for a year or two. Only downside is now that mirror's "heated" feature takes longer because the original mirror is underneath the new glass.

I ordered a heated replacement glass for one of mine-- Smash out the old and scrape away the pieces then glue on the new one after connecting wires. It was about $20 for the glass replacement. My problem now is in the mechanical stuff behind the mirror... :{

The Mopar glass should be direct replacement, as in pop off the old glass, disconnnect wires, connect wires to new glass and snap new glass back on. Saves a lot of time and you dont have to worry about makeing a mess with shattered glass and dinkin around with glue. You pay a little more but much easier and cleaner install.

is the new tow mirror glass replaceable, if so how, i've looked behind the glass and only saw about 3 metal tangs and looks like a plastic ball, how does one go about removing the glass if we are able to anymore, or is the tow mirror now only total replacement, i have several mirrors that i ordered that has the new style mirrors glass i can't seem to use...

but the new mirrors have a different type of base, it doesn't have the tension wire no more, i really don't know what is has, i've looked under the mirror and i can't figure how to take the mirror off without breaking one to find out how do ...
