and hesitate to take to the dealer for a flush and fill.

Am I better off to just drain radiator and refill a cople of times over the few months as some members have done or have dealer flush it. . ??.

Don't know which is best but I drained mine myself and put

Fleet guard EC Complete in it.

Why do you hesitate to take it to the dealer? I took mine there and had them do it and had no problems..... towed my Airstream from Maryland to Arizona and back last month.

Drain, fill, drain, fill, drain, fill, etc. Flush like that running engine after every fill until warmed up & thermostat opened. I did this until water was completely clear. Filled with Fleetguard 50\50 ES. That was (2) years ago, going to remove radiator & clean & refresh with the same this month!

I've done my own flush 3 times since I purchased in 01. If you follow the Dodge Truck shop manual it's a cake walk. If you don't have the Dodge Truck Shop Manual, go to the back page of your owners manual and look for the information to purchase - best $100 I've spent so far.

Use a 50/50 anti-freeze (not the red crap) and when mixing use only distilled or deionized water - distilled can be had at the local Acme/Pathmark etc. for about a buck a gallon. It is pure water - no junk that will end up in your system. Make sure to flush and back-flush the heater core too.

If you can you should remove the radiator and clean the outside surfaces of all the junk that's accumilated over the years.

If you are still running the original rad cap and T-stat I suggest finding a local Cummins shop and get the real stuff there - not at the local parts store - less quality and will not perform or last as long. MHO

Fleetguard is Cummins brand name products , so from your local Cummins dealer , My way is to just open the petcock at bottom of rad. fill with distilled run till normal temp , repeat till clear , then fill with %50 distilled & %50 low silicate coolant .
