hello

I am running a fass pump on a 2004 dodge cummins that is running vegoil blend the pump will run 14 to 17 lbs running down the road the temp of the fuel is running from 75 degs and 120 degs I am on a road trip and what has got my mind working is that about 80 miles in to the trip the pump started losing pressure I have spa gauges that I can change the time that it reads the psi its set to take a reading every 1. 5 sec and display the reading it has an alarm on it if if goes lower tha 5 psi. the first time it did the low psi I was running at 80 mph and the engine was turing 1800 rpm it did it only for about 10 miles and then it started to build pressure then it ran ok for about 15 min

then started doing it again this time it was much worse it was running at a neg psi for 8 to 10 miles as low as -20 psi the gauge is hooked up 6 inches from the ip pump I have seen this gauge do this when the lift pump died on me before this is a different pump the one that went out was a stock one.

the engine started to surge like it was running out of fuel and I really thought it was going to die but it did not it started to build pressure and then came back to normal but if I tryed to go faster the psi would falloff and if I slowed down the psi would build.

we stoped for lunch and got back on the road the engine ran the rest of the day with no problems the pump is running any where from 15 psi to 10 psi and this is at the same speed and temp as before

the fuel tank is new and it is heated the fass pump is about 9 months old but was just in for a motor and had new wareplates installed this was from a lack of fuel from trying to suck the fuel thru a stock (dead) lift pump. the pump is heated also model is a 150/150-1005 I think dont have the paper work with me. the filters are newer they have about 2400 miles on them I change the filters at the same time I change engine oil at 3000 miles I do the because of the vegoil is a lot harder on the filters than diesel is. the fuel blend is filtered thru a 5 micron sock filter for 24 hrs or more so i dont think this is a fuel problem and with the heat the fuel is thiner than it would be if it was cold.

any help on this would be nice and any thoughts would also be helpful

thanks for your help

fuel pump

Thanks Diesel Dan

Will check out the amps when I get home the truck is running fine today will be putting on a new filters before we get back on the road thanks for the advice on the pump I will be doing my wifes truck so I will be getting the 95 gph pump.

if I read this right the pumps you have pull fuel from the tank and then push the fuel thru the filters then on to the ip pump and I should have a pre filter on the suction side of the pump.

the veg oil is a lot thicker than diesel and at 160 degs is about the same I just think the cp3 pump wont take that kind of heat . I will start looking in to that next also the blend I use is not as thick as just svo mine has 10% K1 and 5% rug so its a lot thinner when its cold but its thick compared to D2

thanks for the help. all info is helpful at this point, thanks again

did you have any other symptoms of low psi. I would think that is u were running -20 truck would have died. Check out the gauage. I had all kinds of problems with my SPA Boost/EGT gauage until I cut and soildered all the connections. I would get odd negative boost reading running down the road out of the blue. No problems since. These are nice high quality gauges but they were made for race cars and rice burners not diesels, which are very harsh. Just a thought

fuel psi

hello

i thought of that also the engine sounded like it was going to stop zero power you could feel the sruge in the truck could not pass or even keep up with the car in front of me once it started building psi it ran fine it did not run like a pluged filter when it does that it smokes really bad and it gets really loud like theres air in the lines i am sure the gauge was wrong but i am sure it was low pressure that was causing this the pump and engine are running fine now so one would think its a filter issue but not a pluged filter issue so thats want i will be looking at first.

if i was to heat the oil to 160 degs then i could pass about anything thru the filters at 100 degs i can do the same if the temp at the time iam making fuel is cool out say 40 to 55 degs its hard to get the raw oil to flow thru the bag filters but heat the same oil to 80 degs and it will flow like water.

this one is going to bug me for some time it looks like

fuel pump

Hello All

The fuel pump is working just great I did not change the filters or anything when I was on the trip, not sure what the problem was but its not doing it right now. thinks maybe some thing it the tank from the mod getting the heater in it.

Diesel Dan you said the better fuel pump would be a 95 gmp fass pump I am starting to put the part together for my wifes truck and would like to make sure I get the right pump her truck is a 2005 2500 short box 4x4 quad cab.

i am thinking that the pump would be either the 95/95-1007 or 150/95-1007

is this right I would want the pump on my truck and this new pump to be able to use the same fillters.

thanks for your time

95/95

Hi Dan,

Could you please tell me what size the threads are on the 95/95 pump and is there a cross reference filter number you can give me for a substitute filter. I can find the water separators but can't find the main filter. Please call me at 406-672-6853.

Thanks,

CJ Hall
