I was "grandfathered in" as well and have every endorsement you can get but I've never heard of a MOTORCYCLE CDL. Wazz up with dat?
I have a M ( motorcycle/moped ) endorsement on my CDL. Matter of fact, on the front under class, it has AM.

I think that the best part of it all is that the state police don't really know, CD

DON/TX... ... . Living in Wichita, KS. , I am very familiar with some of the antics of the guys at the South Haven, KS. port of entry. Rumor is that it serves as a training facility for a KDOT school in the Winfield/Ark City area.
A few years back, a rookie inspector cited me for having my CURRENT day logsheet "unsigned". I asked where this rule is written in the federal reg's. He just replied that all logs must be signed, including the current day. ***Now who in their right mind would sign an open-ended contract? Which is what I would be doing if I signed my logs BEFORE the end of my day/shift!!!!!!***
So, Don/Tx, what is your take on this?
Ok is this legal. I purchased a 48 ft enclosed race trailer with living quarters. I went to the registery to register it . I asked what do I need for a license and to register it. I asked every question I could they said register it is going to be as a camper it has living quarters. I said what about the cars in the back doesnt matter it is a camper you are excluded for any other registration. You can drive it with a class c. I asked i will be towing to races nope its non comercial. I then asked a ****** off dot cop the other day he said you need a cdl I asked why he walked away does anyone know the truth on this ???????????????
The 9,000# truck and a 15,000# trailer, at least in CA, does not require anything special as long as its not commercial.
I would hope you fought that one??
JHardwick, the person was correct, if you are hauling for hire as you are doing, you do need a CDL.

Right from the Commercial Driver's License Program (CDL/CDLIS) - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website
"Drivers need CDLs if they are in interstate, intrastate, or foreign commerce and drive a vehicle that meets one of the following definitions of a CMV:"
Something that has not been brought up here, is that with a CDL you are subject to a different set of rules than the normal driver is. In most all cases, the rules are stricter. For instance, you cannot be as drunk when driving, and in Texas, you do not qualify for the school in lieu of a fine for many offenses. Some states even fine you heavier with a CDL. It makes no difference if you are in your Yugo or an 18 wheeler when caught. I have often thought this could be challenged, since the same offense in the same state with the same vehicle results in different punishments.
