Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) what and where is the engine postion sensor

ok like the title says i wanna know what and where is the sensor that reads the engines postion in the rotation?

Crank sensor is behind the starter. Much easier to remove if the starter is out of the way. Cam sensor is between the VP44 and the head, also a pain to replace. I've done both, neither are a whole lot of fun.

ok can the cam senor be done w/o removing the vp?

You can replace the cam sensor without pulling the VP44. I did it. It has one bolt holding it in so you need a long extension to get in there and then some way to wiggle the old one out. If I remember correctly, there is an o-ring on it to keep it from leaking out oil and sometimes that makes it difficult to get out. The biggest challenge will be lack of space back in there.

Yea, it can be done, just make sure you smoke a joint before hand so you dont lose your temper after fiddling with it for an hour. Its a PITA for sure

Cam sensor in a 99 is used for diagnostic purposes only and does not effect engine operation. Unless your in to pain I would leave that one alone.

well i change the other first and see if there is a change in the way its running. for a list of my problems look for the many problems w/ no solutions thread.
