Hey all

Just came back from my local Jiffy Lube and I now have a leaking Drain Plug. I can't remember what the OEM plug looked like. I thought it was a hex head. But I can't remember. I'm thinking that they knew they blew it and tried to fix it with out telling me anything. I usually go to my local cummings shop but they were closed and I was in a bit of a pinch.

Does you plug look like this?

The oem plug sits flush w/pan and is removable with a socket... ... ..... I forget if its 3/8 or 1/2.

This removes with a 1/2 drive. I thought the OEM was a Hex Head plug? Is pic OEM then? I want to be sure befor I go back and pitch a fit.

Mine did, not sure on the size though. From what I can see it looks similar to the oem (small pic). I would still go back and tell them that it was not installed/replaced properly. I worked at an oil change a long time ago. They kept a stockpile of oem plugs and such in stock... usually b/c they wear out or get damaged..... take it back either way tell them to replace it again... it could be cross threaded if its leaking.

Looks Like the OEM to me just based on the pic. I'm not sure but I think there is a gasket that goes in there. but either way mine leaked like that too. I tried everything to get it to stop. Finally I went witht the finger touch from Geno's hasn't leaked a drop yet, and makes oil changes a breeze

Hey guys thanks for the information. I wanted to make sure. I couldn't remember and thought I would ask before I went in and started pitching a fit.

even at the haynes manual specs its can break. broke one 9pm night before a trip. not an easy size to find that late. got a standard socket type plug from a truck shop.

My oem plug was 3/8 drive it developed a leak at the drive insert(cracked) I replaced it with a Heavy Duty Oil Plug from Geno's.

Apparently my mechanic mechanics were over tighting it.

I like the finger touch idea but worry about it coming open when driving through brush and or tall weeds. How about it, those of you that have it, is that a possibility?

If worried about brush maybe opening it there is always safety wire. While I don't 4 wheel and my truck is a 2 wheel drive I cannot see how it would get opened. Piece of mind is worth a lot and safety wire will give you that. Just a thought.
