I was under my truck the other day changing my new 07's Manual trans fluid to Amsoil ATF4 and I noticed There were cracks on the surface of the Aluminum housing. Little ones like you would see on tires that have been sitting in the sun for a while. . No leaks or anything, just a curious observation. . I cannot remember seeing them on my 06 G-56... any ideas? Just curious... :)

Thanks to John Holmes at Carson dodge... . He exp;ained the cracks as absolutely normal and it is a result of the SAND CASTING process! Interesting!!

Yep.

Got those as well. Glad someone tracked down why they were there. I had the initial reaction like there was something wrong. Of course, I only started to look there when I had an noise issue from my transmission...

while i have not seen the g56 housing, i have seen lots of cast aluminum components, and i am pretty sure what type of "cracks" you are talking about on the surface. . they are normal. . i have seen some cast components at work that have hundreds of small cracks on the surface, but a quick touch with the sander and they are gone [i got bored at work one day]

A polished trans housing would be cool. :)
