For you guys with after market transmissions, and are not near authorized dealers, or the original seller. What do you guys do for service? Out here on the central coast of CA, there is not anyone who knows anything about diesel trans, except the dealer. I am researching trannies now, but closest dealer is ATS in Stockon, 2. 5 hrs away. I just want a reliable transmission to handle the power I have, and to tow my fifth wheel. I don't want to be shipping my trans off if something goes wrong, and I need service from the builder. As always any advice is much appreciated.

2. 5 hours isn't bad. I know several people on the forums who've driven hours to get a shop they like. I drove 3 hours myself to have my transmission done. My truck is now 7 hours away having some work done. I know for some and possibly you, that may be out of the question but, ya have to do what you have to do sometimes.

I think once you've have it done by a place that knows what they're doing, anyone including you can service it from there. All you'd have to really worry about is changing the fluid & filter. ATS would be a very good place to have do the work. If you're only going to be towing... I wouldn't think you'd have much trouble out of it.

Very true. I do not have a complete aftermarket trans but have TC & VB that I put in myself and have since gone much deeper. Just like pump work, It seems to be too technical untill you actually do it. Its not that bad. And like Triton wrote, very little should be nessesary if its done right the first time.

I would recomend finding the best source regardless of distance. We some have our favorites but unless asked for them, I dont think name dropping is right.

Bob, I am located in Santa Cruz.

Rebel Ram, the main reason that i did not specifically ask for favorites, is i did not want to start a "brand x" is better than "brand y", however, I am not sure which direction to go. I like the idea of the big brands, DTT, ATS etc, I also like the small shop, Goerend, and HTS. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Kris, I'm in San Jose and have a great trans shop over here, in fact he just did another TDR members truck, Ben from Santa Cruz. I think that makes around 5 he has done in the last couple of months. He is good and very reasonable. Shoot me a word or two if you want his number.
