SO far if you read the front page of the TDR website it says that the Valvolene premium blue is not doing so well in the CJ-4 testing. Why would cummins endorse this oil if indeed it is inferior to other oils on the market?? I am getting ready for an oil change in my 07 to get rid of the break in oil and was going to go with the Premium blue. . any ideas guys???

I'd go with the Delo. I've been using the Rotella synthetic, and just had an oil analysis run by Blackstone. My lead and iron levels were abnormally high (lead--high bearing wear, iron--high cylinder/valve train/ rotating shaft wear).

Delo has moly and boron added which seem to help alot with wear. My next change will be either the Delo, or Schaeffer's 9000 with moly. --Eric

So are you guys going to use the delo 400 LE CJ stuff then???? It was also ranked rather low in the testing. . or do you have some CI4 piled up? Thanks!

WHERE ARE THE RUSULTS LISTED ON THIS OIL TEST ? I'VE BEEN USING 15/40 AMSIOL DIESEL OIL FOR YEARS , I WANTED TO KNOW HOW THAT STACKED UP ?

The results are listed on the front page of this website. Just click TDR home at the top and there it is! As I understand it, all the CJ oils are good just can't run them as long as we could before. I just called my local Cummns Cal Pacific and they no longer have the CI4+, only the CJ in the Premium blue.

I could not find any Delo 400 (the good stuff, i. e. CI4+) in my town available for sale. I could find LOTS of Delo 400 LE (crappy ULSD oil, CJ4 rating) EVERYWHERE. I went with the Napa CI4 oil. My . 02.

I just did a drive around the entire town... even to the cummins place here locally. ONLY CJ oil was to be found. I even called my dealership and they said all they had was the CI oil. . very interesting... I asked them if they ised that oil in the New 6. 7's and they said it goes in ALL diesels!! WOW!! WHo makes the MOPAR stuff anyway???? SO I am up in arms as to what I am supposed to do!! Thanks for all the responses everyone!

Roperteacher, can you order it online somehow? If you buy enough of it, you might be able to justify the cost of shipping, plus avoid tax. ?? I haven't looked, just a thought.

You might check with the local Sam's Club. I bought 3 cases of CI-4 Delo 400 at Sam's about a month ago - however, that was all they had left. The next palette was full of the CJ stuff.

You will have to download the report from the link provided. Acutally, the premium blue regular and sythetic was in the best category. Amsoil C1-4 in 5w40 was in the good category and the Amsoil Premium cj-4 was in the ho-hum category.

I for one am proud that Cummins put their stamp on such an outstanding conventional and synthetic oil. Delo 400 CI-4+ is a great oil too and I have plenty of that on hand until I switch to Schaeffer 9000. I just bought some CI delo at autozone this weekend. When you look for it, be sure to check behind the front jug! The shelves are stocked from the front in Last in First out fashion. I found several jugs hidden behind 4 or 5 CJ versions.

As far as I know Schaeffer has no immediate plans to reformulate to the CJ in their 9000 series but I'll probably stock up in case. I use a lot of redline products in the dodge and other vehicles but I just don't know if $100+ of oil per change is quite worth it even though bragging rights are worth a lot. :D

I've run Delo and PremBlue with great analysis results. Currently running Delo and I add ValvolineSytheticOil Treatment for a healthy shot of moly and other additives.

If you live in a farming area, check with the farm implement dealers. I bought 20 cases of Delo CI -4+. Quarts, but I can live with the inconvenience for the next 110K.

They did have a few five gallon pails, but to me that is more of a hassle than the quarts.

The TDR write-up on how Delo went from an excellent oil to crappy in the CJ 4 really bugs me.

Texaco

Here at my shop I use Texaco products. I just purchased a drum of 15w/40 super ursa CI4+. I wonder why no one talks about Texaco oil much. From what I've read, they have some of the most advanced oil test equipment in the world. The factory reps say many other oil companies come to them for help when they have a problem. Texaco's products meet some of the toughest OEM specs. , such as Cat,Cummins,Mack,Volvo ect. . I sure would've liked to see how it stacked up in the oil analysis test on the home page.

Go to bobistheoilguy.com and you can find info on Texaco oil. Look in the virgin oil analysis section. First or second VOA thread... . :)

I don't know if this is a "TYPO", or just bad info, but AMSOIL does NOT make a CI-4 "Specific" 5W-40 Diesel Oil!

The (DEO) CJ-4 oil is the only 5W-40 Amsoil makes in this Performance spec.

They do however make a 5W-40 in a "Euorpean" formula, but it does NOT have a CI-4 rating.

A few weeks back I noticed at Walmart an additive that's supposedly made to be added to replenish oil additives when using extended drain.

I wonder if someone with more time will test one to find out if it will improve the CJ oils. I think it was in the gasser section though.

The issue isn't really the AVAILABILITY of additive alternatives - there ARE some available - but rather the formulation of off the shelf lubes that will operate in the newer engines without damaging their emission systems, while still providing the long term engine protection of the older oils they replaced.

Many of us have long since been adding stuff to our fuel to make up for what has been removed - now, must we do the same with our engine lubes too?:rolleyes:
