Muffler more so than the cat

Of the two I think the muffler is the biggest restriction. I recall this from reading the various posts when I got my 2004. 5. I'm sure the cat doesn't help but at least it's straight through whereas the muffler has numerous turns and restrictions plus it weighs a ton.

I couldn't find the post, but I remember somone posting pics of the factory muffler with the side cut out of it. It was amazing all the twists and turns inside that thing.

even if the cat was straight through like a gasser I would still believe it still has its share of restrictions. I know that cats are pretty much post cumbustion devices that are there to burn off what they can post combustion. they take a few minutes of running to start working on a gasser cuz they have to heat up. this leads me to believe they are using already hot gasses and friction from air moving through them to get even hotter to burn off post combustion gasses. not to mention the heat creates a wall of hot gasses and the hot gasses are harder to push through. I am not a aerodynamic engineer so I really wish somebody with a background in aerodynamics potentially in the racing industry would chime in and tell me right or wrong. I do know on the other hand the more crap that builds on them the crappier they flow. just cut it out, make breathing simply without some technological crap, and be done.
