Towing and transmission pros

Hey Guys,

I Have air bags on my truck and I am going to be pulling a 26' travel trailer soon. Should I hitch up and level with the air bags? I wouldn't think that would give the bars much tension. What is the correct procedure?

Thanks

Brenden

the reason for a WD hitch is to put weight on the front wheels. . now if you have the bags filled for taking the weight of the trailer, you still don't have much added weight on the fronts. . some, but not a lot.

Also you need an antisway hooked. . what I would do is have the bags set for the eight of the rear plus say 20#... then set up your hitch so you get good tension. . THEN, go to a scale and see how the axles weigh. you need more on drives than steer like say 5200 drive and 4400 steer. keep it balanced.

I had a very front heavy 31' FKS before the fiver. The guy I bought it from had bent the 1200# bars. In fact to level the TT took the same amount of air pressure as leveling the fiver with 2700# pin wgt.
I would play with air and tension till it feels right.
I never liked the way the truck handled with the WD attached so I quit using it.
Now for the disclaimer. Professional drivers only. Don't try this at home!:)

Thanks for the input fella's. I have been towing for a long time now but I have never had air bags and a W/D hitch at the same time :p

Thats what I thought experiment a little and test it. Thanks again for the tips!
