I have an 03 spd cummins that I just put a 4" turbo back MBRP exhaust on. I know some will say they like it but it is just a little too much for me. What muffler or resonator or whatever can I do to make it get the roar down?I even listened to a sound clip before I purchased it but it sounded nothing like this. Thanks for your help.

I'm in the process of removing an MBRP replacement muffler from my '05 for the same reason. I have no problem with the sound when empty but under load it is a bit too loud for my taste. MBRP makes a resonator that is supposed to quite things down a bit but I have no experience with it.

I have a 51" Donaldson on order and hope to have it installed in the next week or two. That should do the trick from what I've been told.

Take this from experience. I ran my MBRP duals for about a year. Then put the MBRP resonator on up front, and not much difference. I switched the MBRP resonator with one from DYNOMAX and the problem is fixed. The loudness (and drone at 2000 rpm) are completly gone while driving solo or with a load behind me. I'm am extremely pleased. I picked up the dynomax resonator from one of the local exhaust shops for about $40. Hope this helps.

I started with the full Banks exhaust system and the drone around 2000-2200 rpm was awful. I installed an MBRP behind the Banks and it helped a little, but the drone is still there under load. I kind of wish I had the quiet stock system back.

I added a dynomax muffler to my existing muffler that came with the dual exhaust set up and with 2 mufflers the truck sounds great and not too loud and I can hear my turbo spool nicely

I have the Silverline dual system and it ran me out of the truck as well. I added a 20" Magnaflow muffler and it got rid of the drone. Has worked well for over three years now.

CBRABEC you dont happen to know the part number for this resonator do you. If it helped you thats what I will do.

I'm happy with the noise level while towing with my stock system, but am looking at replacing it to keep EGTs under control. Adding the second muffler/etc to the systems mentioned above cut down on noise and drone, but wonder if that then made the overall system have no decrease in back-pressure as compared to stock. For those who measured it, what EGT increase was seen after the install of the second muffler/etc?

I just put an sps62 turbo on, I have a four inch muffled exhaust, aftermarket. The turbo made my exhaust noise twice as loud as it was before. Is this normal with just a turbo change, I wonder if that resonator would help me also. Its an extremely loud drone at 2 thousand rpm,s

I didn't try without the resonator, but my MBRP system was too loud for me with the resonator. I'm using the MBRP muffler as a resonator in front of a RokTech muffler now and it sounds good.

I had the Aeroturbine 4040, it has the built in resonater, cost me $250, it was really loud, it is much smaller than the stock muffler, had a nice deep rumble at low rpms, but it finally got to me and I wanted some peace and quiet. I cut it off last thursday and welded in a Rokktech, now I can hear my stereo without having to crank it up, and it is a straight through pipe, so no restriction, I am very happy with the Rokktech, it only cost $150. The Aeroturbine is stainless and polished and the Rokktech is just spray painted alumnized steel, but I can't see it from the drivers seat. If anyone is interested I would sell the Aeroturbine, its not too big so you could get it to fit in tandem with your existing muffler, Aeroturbine claims thier design is better than straight pipe because it actually accelerates the gases as they pass through. The only thing is the Rokktech is huge and will be the first thing to get slammed by rocks if I go offroading, but I am loving the sound and with the silencer ring MIA I can hear the turbo whistlin real nice.

PKnoerzer,

Did you tow after adding only the Rokktech muffler? Was it too loud and/or droned any in the 1800-2200 rpm range, and that's why you added the MBRP in front of it?

MStrain,

If you towed as well, what EGT decrease did you see with the Rokktech only?

Thanks to you both!

The Rok-Tech had a different tone than the MBRP but wasn't much quieter. It still droned at 2000rpm. When towing it was worse and there was no way to avoid the droning. With both mufflers it sounds good - much better than stock, but not too loud. The EGT doesn't build as quickly either.
