Andy- Thanks for the post! I think I can deffinatly put in all 3 covers seeing my cummins is under a Chevy and there is no cowl interferance. Does anyone know what 5. 9 they would have come off stock? just helps when I try to figure out who to call up here in Canada. Also, do you know the price you were paying for them? I spent some time pollishing my stockers so if they are worth alot I think I will just go and get a set of clamp on breathers and then just tig tubes to my stock covers but those sure look nice!

Ryan,

Looking at the parts look up they came off a 850k series 2. If you go to CNH's website you can look up the parts and get the numbers to rattle off to the dealer when you call them. I am now woundering how many parts are common between those engines and ours?

Troy

I will disagree with that. .

Cummins is where I had my extra sets orderd from and they are still on back order. I heard from the shop today and I believe 3 of the sets are in but still have some on back order.

Would you be so kind as to disclose the cummins numbers for these. I have never waited more than 3 days for any parts Ive ever got from cummins. Maybe my CNH dealer is bad and your cummins dealer is bad. Could very well be the case but Im not here to argue.

I dont have the Cummins numbers I only have the CASE numbers, they are all posted in the PDF file that I posted earlier. Sorry

I was asking Hammer as he said taht he ordered his from cummins. I was just interested in trying different meathods. I checked with my CNH dealer they sell the valve cover for $70, the breather $22 and the seal for the breather $8. I dont now what anybody else is paying. They couldnt give me atime frame though. This is a good post.

Thanks Travis.

I just ordered mine today from the Case IH Dealer(tractor) and found out that the 4BT/6BT 12valve engines are still being used and the 4bt used one dual cover/breather and two singles.

Here is the website to get the Part #'s from for Case IH... most have the same part #'s as the ones posted above.

I called both the Case Industrial (Dozers) and found that the prices there were about 25% more than Case IH (Tractors).

Here is a little info about Cummins that I found out today. I called up my old boss (worked for a trucking company for a few years) and they are very close with Cummins Ontario. I asked him to find me the covers and gave him the Part #'s and also the BDF of what they look like from the Case Website. Turns out he talked to Cummins up here and they have never even seen that style of cover before and they are importing all the engines into Canada out of Cummins in Charleston, South Carolina (we were actually the main carrier for bringing them up untill a year ago).

Anyway, He was telling us that what might happen is that case might order the engines with out covers or with the standard covers and then outsource there own covers or maybe they make them there selves. So that might be the reason no one can get #'s from Cummins.

When I pick mine up on friday I will look at them and see if there are any stampings on them as to where they are made and do some more research.

I ordered one today from case, and I am attempting to get the cummins numbers if and when I do I will post the numbers if sombody hasn't by then.

I went to a case dealer and used the part numbers from the pdf file on the first page. Case was backordered for who knows how long and Cummins had two remaining in stock. I had the case dealer order the valve covers from cummins and the breather and gasket from case. I like the fact that my truck shares it's engine with dozers and backhoes and generators. :)

Ya, they arent too cheap but they sure do look nice and lets not forget they are extremely functional

not as extremely functional as four baffled chrome breathers though... I'll take 4 times the crank case breathing at 1/5th the cost.

I will readily admit, they have a very nice OEM look to them, and I've spent a lot of money in the name of minor asthetics that most wouldn't ever really notice, but principle won't let me spend that much when I can get more function for considerably less money

Myself...

I'd like to hear what you base this fact on?. Have you done a pressure test with your exiting crankcase pressure to verify that these are not as good as the old drill and shove them in chromie breathers?. I am guessing that you never looked at one of these close up to see the inners and how much area they have for pressure ventilation, plus the added benefit of making sure the oil stays in the motor and not out through the push in breathers. Hmmmm... ... .

Yeah, I was also going to say just that. After seeing two different trucks, one with push in breathers and another with actual welded on tubes/clamped on breathers that both trucks blew them off and had oil everywhere... I would rather have this setup. I just picked mine up the other day and are already on the truck but havn't seen how they work yet because its not quite ready to fire yet. I will give details next weekend if I get it up and running for its first pull. I am about half done doing all the plumbing jobs but its take a while.

I've had good luck with the local peterbilt shop once I get them a cummins engine number they pull up any parts I want. Used to work at the case dealer a few years ago so I might be able to get a little price break.

Finally snapped some new pics of the engine today and got one of the valve covers on mine. If you are running non stock lines bent for water injection you will only be able to run two covers instead of three. If I wouldn't have been running the modified lines than I could have had 3 of them. I don't have the hoses on them yet but its nice that you can just pop the locating bushing in order to rotate the breather so it can point in a different direction. Mine were of the same looking aluminum and took a polish well but after 10 minutes I decieded it wasn't worth it for me and just painted my two polished stock ones instead.

All in all I am very happy with them and I will have an update hopefully this weekend on how they work!

To see the pic you will have to click this link to jump to the competition forum to see it seeing I already posted it there.
