Competition Freshned the Crower

Just curious on what everyone is running. I am needing to replace my EEP clutch.

What are your likes and dislikes?

How much pulling do you do?

Tell me about them!

Thanks

Adam

I like my Southbend 3850 Street Comp 12 CB

Holds goods on the track and Its not to bad on the street

I think my ConFe chatterd more, The pedel pressure was a bit much so i went with the hydrolic upgrade and its not so bad now

The only thing i found wierd was When i put it in Reverse it will clunk and go in violently and shake the truck:eek:

But it will NOT do it if i put it in a forward gear before going in reverse

Ive talked to a couple other guys and they say they have the same problem, and others not so much

But other than that Im a happy customer:)

3850 FB non sprung hub, excellent hooked to a sled. 5 hooks so far... Driven on the street daily, I like it better than my FE for street driving (less chattering), pedal pressure is just alittle more. It does shift alittle slower, but no big deal.

HighFinance, I suspect that your input shaft may be hanging up on your pilot bearing! Check it out before you take out forward synchros!
My trans was doing that and 3rd gear synchro went out after 3k miles.
We pulled it out and the input shaft was worn and the pilot bearing was shot.

Hmmm Its got a brand new pilot bearing and it goes into all the other gears just fine, Ill have to see thanks for the info

I am running the SBC 3850 12CB and love it so far. I used to drive it on the street and it wasn't too bad other than the pedal pressure. Now the truck is used strictly for sled pulling and once the 3850 gives up, which I don't see it happening anytime soon with how well it is holding up, I will be going to the 4200 Iron Giant and hopefully that will be the last one I will ever need. :D

So from what im reading here is that the FE chatters on the street, im in the market for a new one but now im not sure about this chatter issue you guys are speaking of. I would like a DD but i cant really swing it right now and the stocker cant take it any longer. I seen a couple of rebuilt used DD but cant find them again.

I run a South Bend 4200 DD with great success 18 hooks on it and counting.

Drive it every day on the street, stop and go and highway.

Is yours ceramic or feramic?

Thanks

And yes it is just a pulling truck I will drive it on the street just for fun though so drivability is not a huge issue.

I have a Mitchell DD, I know, I know, its not a South Bend... . But it has performed flawless for me. I have the upgraded hydraulics also and have been driving it everyday in traffic, hauling trailers and about 2-3 hooks to a sled and it still looked great when I had it taken out last week. Had to upgrade the floater disc 'cuz it was a little thin (3/8") and upgraded to 1/2", but MCS Diesel in STL hooked me up and footed the bill. Not sure what the clamping force is rated at on the pressure plate, but the clutch pedal is only slightly stiffer than stock, which I prefer. Stock feels too much like a car for me... .

DD, let me know and you can check out my clutch anytime you want.

I've got the 3850 12CB South Bend and it works great on the street, a bit more pedal pressure than stock but not too bad. It goes into neutral if I am in stop and go. I kind of wish I went with the 4200 clutch just so I know it would hold great but I haven't had any issues with this clutch yet either.

Thanks tim, i felt it when we all got together in syr the first time, remember, im just not sure if i want to spend all that money because i dont know if im even gonna pull yet. i will probally just get a single for now, im really into my antique pulling now, but we will see what happens, you gonna try and make it on the 25th?

SBC 3850 12CB - Very pleased with the street manners, very smooth engagement, low noise, mild pedal pressure increase. 3 hooks and counting.

big yellow, whats wrong with your eep dd? disk worn out? have it re-disked.

yea its worn out and wont hold. I have been pulling in some big gears. The flywheel is cracked from heat in 3 places and wont surface out, floater is broke, pressure plate is all grooved up. I will have almost as much money in it to rebuild it and it will still be a cast wheel. Im liking the idea of sfi and billet so when the new engine gets done wont have to worry about the flywheel. I think im leaning more tward the Haisley comp puller style clutch. I am told the sintered iron is better for the big gears. I want to be able to control the wheels by slipping the clutch and Im afraid a SBC will be to sticky and just blow the tires off. Dunno Still thinking.
