Hey Guys, I was just looking under the hood of the truck and noticed a strange wire running off the positive terminal of the battery on the drivers side. It has an in-line fuse and then some sort of relay, from there it runs down toward the back of the injection pump, and then I lose it. Any idea as to what this may be? I'll try and follow it better tomorrow when there's more light to see if I can tell where it's going. I think it is aftermarket, but not sure. Thanks

Would it be for the intank pump conversion???

No it does'nt look like the photo. You think it is for a in tank pump conversion? The wire runs to the back of the motor, and then up toward the front near the injection pump. I'm very new to the third gen trucks, so I'm not really sure what things are. What is the big aluminum thing in front of the injection pump up by the belt? It almost seems like it's running toward that. I'll have to take a better look to see exactly where it goes. Thanks for the ideas!

Could be used for the fuel shutoff solenoid. Positioning is about right. If the original fuesed wire was burned through a new inline fused wire may have been the fix.

I don't believe common rail trucks have a fuel shutoff solenoid. There's no need for one - the injectors simply turn off instead.

JLewis, if you can take a picture we can probably make a determination. Not sure what this "big aluminum thing" is... unless it's an early-build 2003, which had the throttle position sensor mounted just in front of the intake horn, above the injection pump. But that had a black plastic cover on it.

Looks like he has a 98 12 Valve per his signature not a common rail.

My dealer-installed fog lights use a system similar to what you mentioned. It has a fuse inline, then a "omron" relay. The trigger lead to activate the relay is tied to the low beam headlight wire. If you have dealer installed Dodge (oem) foglights, this is the way they install them. If they were put on the truck at the factory, they are wired in the relay box.
