MaxBrake Brake Controller?

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

You need a CDL if your trailer if over 10,000# !!

?? for you frequent haulers

I am interested in input on MaxBrake also. I talked with Southwestern Wheel in Dallas today. They say MaxBrake is compatible with electric over Hydraulic trailer brakes, (unlike the Prodigy). Price is no concern to me when it comes to having truly proportional brakes on a heavily loaded trailer!

Hmmm... it looks like finally there may be some competetion for the Brake Smart brake controller. I'll be curious about its reliability.

I love my Prodigy so I can't see changing it out for 2xs the price... Hell my truck stops better with the trailer hooked up. LOL ;)

If price is no concern and you just want the very best. Look to BRAKESMART. :) I did, 28k combined and cant tell the trailer is back there. JMHO

Sled Dog... I have seen BrakeSmart & without research thought it was for a motorcoach towing a car. So I will check it out.

Brakesmart ?

Does anyone remember, did I see something a while back on brakesmart problems and poor warranty not sure here. I have a prodigy now and may be looking to upgrade.

I've been using a BrakeSmart for about 3 1/2 years and 400k miles. My experience has been all positive. I did have a minor problem early on and the old BrakeSmart company sent me a replacement at no charge with my promise that I would return the one I had. They were a great company who stood behind their product. Later, when the new owners, Mr. Performance, took over I called them with a technical question about the controller. They were very helpful. I have nothing but praise for the companies and product.

Having said the above, I also like Southwest Wheel. I have bought lots of parts from them and some service over the years in my hometown and have nothing but good to say about them. I read the link to the new MaxBrake above and it appears to use exactly the same technology as BrakeSmart. My guess is the founder of the new company has some insider experience with BrakeSmart. No matter, it appears to be a knockoff from the BrakeSmart and is priced slightly cheaper, at least for now.

A buyer now has a choice. I'd probably buy either. Competition is good. That is what makes America great.

I started to buy the BrakeSmart even though the price is too high IMO, but what turned me off was that they told me that the clock worked, but could not keep reliable time. They also said that they were going to discontinue the clock because all trucks have clocks anyway. I told them that I wanted the clock, if it worked correctly, because I can hardly see the clock on my radio display on my Dodge. So I figured that if such an advanced company in the technology field can't even make an accurate working clock, maybe I don't want to buy their product and at a very high price to boot.
