Engine Stumbles intermittently

I had two mods done last week and wanted to share the results.

I got a set of Twins from MPI (many of you know this company as Idaho CTD, Nathan Wright) MPI is Maximized Performance Inc. They are by most standards a large set but my fueling level just put me there. 1st I'd like to say that Nathan doesn't just pull something off the shelf,. . he asks all the pertinent questions 1) your mods are? 2) goals for the truck 3) how will the truck be used,... primarily and otherwise 4) do you tow and how much weight. Those are examples of what he and I covered when deciding what my set should be. Nathan ended up recommending that I go with the HTT SS 64/71/13 to drive my big dog,... an s400 modified w/a race cover and I opted for a 40mm wastegate to precisely control boost.

The MPI setup works. It works outstanding. For any doubters I wish like ..... I could take you for a ride but seriously spoolup is so close to an oem that there is not a nickels difference,... it is just about instant. Boost will be set at 75psi, per Nathan's recommendation,... it's a little low right now but will be adjusted tomorrow. When the s400 kicks then it is Star Trek Warp Speed. If you haven't felt anything like that b-4 then you are really missing it. Let's talk fit and finish,... have you seen perfect! It is that. The The tolerances between stuff is soooooo close that you can't imagine it could all fit so sweet. The shop even said it was quite easy to install,... big surprise to me as big and heavy as they are but they assembled the set andthen rapped a nylon telephone pulling cable around them and picked it up with a cherry picker and in a matter of a few minutes,... Voila,. . she's bolted up. Then the piping and braces to protect from the upper cold pipe hose from blowing off (that happened to me previously and it really jacked my hood). The vendor Nathan uses for for the powdercoating did an outstanding job too. The set actually looks as good as it works. One more thing on the twins,. . I tow about 12. k from 1 to 3 times a week,... I hooked it up this AM and it towed beautiful. Everything was just as I had hoped for and if you're looking for a 1st cabin set of twins then look no further.

The other mod was Dual CP3s by Relentless. Again the engineering was perfect fit. They were a piece of cake to install. I already had two Dodge pumps so this was the setup for me for sure. It is a great value and you won't believe how your truck will like having the fuel it needs.

An observation on the net affect of the dual cp3s,... you know how your TSt or say SMARTY or whatever you're running doesn't seem to make much difference going between the lower levels and the upper ones when you're on a dyno (I know,... you think it makes a difference when your just on the street and push it up from 3 to lvl 7 or so and man your off,... then you get it on the dyno and there is 30-hp between your lvl3 and lvl 7 and you can't believe it!!!) well when you have dual cp3s the difference between levels is clear,... and it is much more than you ever thought. Face it,. . you have to feed the beast.

Just thought some of you thinking of these mods might like to know a couple that actually work.

Hmmm

How does this new set of compounds compare to your previous setup?

Well I won't bad mouth ATS's set as it is a good setup but I'd say the limits are somewhere in the 600 and a bit more hp range.

The current setup is a 650hp-800hp setup and with NOS will support more,. . considering it.

I feel lousy about that

Sounds like a very nice set up. Some pics would be cool when you get some time.

Man I would just love to have pics of my truck on this thread in in my user info but the fact is I just don't know how to do the whole thing so a local guy is going to hook up with me and try to help me get them loaded. So stay tuned. Tks for the interest.

Well very very nice set up. Those huffers should last you for a while (in the search for HP). What is the finish on the intake pipes? I love that color.

Oh yea and the truck looks pretty nice too. (except for those silly StL. Ram's head) Are those the factory flares? They look very clean.

Which license plates are yours? Hopefully the front. :-laf

GO NINERS:D

Go Niners???

Geeez I hope not :-laf:-laf

The color is Candy Apple and it has a bit of a flake in the powder coat. The Pics are a tiny bit more to the red than the pipes actually are,. . guess it was the lightling or somehting.

In Missouri you can have a sport plate like that on a one ton with 18kgvw plates so the real plate is in front of course. The rear plate is just who I pull

for. After all,... . we went about a millinium without a Super Bowl here,. . you have to love your team when they do that.

Tks for your comments.

hey finally got some pics, looks awesome, neat color choice.

hmmm, cooltwist had highest psi rating, to what?

Yes, finally go the pics. Tks to JFlagg,... . really nice guy (Army and going back to Iraq soon,... best to him).

Yes the Cool Twist had the highest psi rating when I bought mine a couple years ago. Don't hold me to it but it was either 300psi or 500psi. Since I opened my mouth I better ck and post it for you guys. The others were at or just over a 100psi. The also had a great warranty. I think I'll ck with them b-4 I post what I recall it was just for accuracy.

it has got to be a pain to change the oil with twins??i hope to be where your at in a couple years... . sounds like the perfect setup!!!!!!

Man, that's sharp! Have you dynoed yet or ran the 1/4? What size flux sticks did you go with? Have you towed at all with this setup?

Sorry for all the questions, but your setup is exactly what I'm working towards. Do you have a leveling kit on the truck? I assume those are 35's?

Thanks, Eric

Not to speak for Pat, but since I'm here... . ;)The tires are 295's and as far as I could tell last night there is no lift, he may say otherwise though. I just wanted to drop my 2 cents in and say the pictures don't do this truck justice, its that sweet:D My truck looks good(IMO) but looked old and shabby next to his, too bad we didn't go for a test ride... . maybe next time?;) Pat definitely has a first class ride, and its a work truck... but I use that term loosely.

Your questions

No quarter yet. I've had a problem for almost two years and only in the past 4 weeks did I finally get it resolved. It was then I also added the MPI Twins and the Relentless dual cp3s. I'll say this about the 1/4,... if you ck it and I'm sure you have then at worst the truck should see 12. 0s. My personal goal is a bit better,. . we'll see.

I recently changed my Flux sticks to 2. 5s from the 4. 0s. There are those who say the 4. 0s are streetable,... and I guess in the perfect world that's possible,. . for me I want more adjustability for my fueling. I've talked to a lot of guys with a similar setup to my own and most want the adjustability and I personally don't like drawing toooo much attention to the truck by huge smoke out take offs. Sure it smokes when I nail it but I can putz around town and not draw the wrong kind of attention. What happens with the big sticks is that it's fine if you have a race only truck but to tow,... to putz around etc then it's better IMO to be able to do so without as much smoke and also with the 2. 5s you can then turn up you box or downloader to make up for it,. . its a win,. . win that way IMO.

Yes I have towed,... I tow 2 or 3 times a week for my kid a T300 Bobcat so with other gear I'm at around 12. 0 and maybe a bit more. It tows beautiful and I turn the SMARTY Beta down to 3 or 5 at the most depending on the load. I'm playing with some fueling boxes now so none are permanent on the truck yet. That will all come when I eliminate some of them while on the dyno and at the Gateway track,. . very soon. My personal goal is to be ready for Houston in Oct.

As Jeremy stated,. . the tires are 295 Toyo MTs. Love those tires. Tks to the accurate input of many of the members I went with them and those guys knew there stuff. They are a go anywhere kind of tire that is also unbelievably smooth.

I can't thank JFlagg enough to be kind enough to come to the house and take the pics and load all that stuff for me,. . great guy and the kind of guy we can all be proud of,... US Army active duty. Tks also JFlagg for your comments about the truck. And yes,. . I'd love to give you a ride,. . I dismissed the possibility when you were being called to dinner.

Almost forgot,. . I have a leveling kit but it's not on as I can't get the truck in the garage with it on. As it is I have less than a inch of clearance. That tire setup should have the leveling kit IMO,. . Ihad to trim the inside edge of my flares to make it work as it sits.

I added the attached but when I edited it then it went back several pages so I'm bumping it up in case some are interested.

Thanks for the info... I'm probably looking at a helix 2 and springs as my next mod, and was wondering about what sticks to go with. Still being able to tow without all the smoke is a great plus. Thanks again, Eric
