Well, it has happend again. I am getting rust through my spray in bedliner (Turboliner). I had the bedliner sprayed when I bought my truck new. I had to take it back last year because it was rusting through toward the front of the bed. They re-sprayed it and the rust is coming back through. #@$%! Anyone else having issues? I am getting nervous what my bed is looking like underneath the coating. Below are pics of what I am talking about.

Mine's doing fine although it's only been on there seven months. Mine was sprayed after coming off the train in Kellogg,Id. (Dave Smith Motors) It's my understanding that they mearly scuff up your existing bed,use some solvent I assume, then spray. Where's the rust coming from, unless it was a pre-existing condition?

Dave Smith did my truck and the re-spray on it. The truck was brand new when I bought it so I don't think a was a pre-existing condition. The first time that I noticed it was one year after I purchased the truck (March 06). It just looks like the rust is bleeding through the liner at the seams. I live in Vancouver, Washington so salt air or salted roads is not a factor. I just do not know why it is happening.

I have been noticing similiar things on mine. Also, the Turbo Liner isn't holding up as well as the Line-x is in my '97. I've abused the Line-x beyond warranty conditions and it has never failed. The other day when I loaded my 4-wheeler in the bed I bumped the front end when I closed the tailgate. Two spots of the bed liner rubbed off where it contacted the 4-wheeler. I feel this is an inferior product. I know a couple other guys who used Herculiner from Home Depot with better results.

This is only a guess but, I wonder if after they "scuff" the paint, they wash the bed out with water & in the weld joints, the water did not dry out completely before the spray went on.

Some folks have said that the paint, on some trucks, leaves something to be desired, also.

I have the Inyati product (similar to the Line-X) & am very happy with it.

Just to be sure, are you certain the rust isn't coming from outside? I have Line-X, but at the front right corner of my bed I found some rust. Turns out it was simply from hauling steel beams, which deposited small bits of metal into the corner, where they rusted.

Just a thought...

Ryan

Ryan, the right front corner of my '06 has rust just the same as LF's. You can clearly see on mine the bedliner has cracked and seperated on the seam right where the rust is.

I've contacted the dealer about this and other problems I've encountered with products they installed on this truck. They told me to send pictures and estimates of the problems and they would get them taken care of. This was months ago and nothing has been taken care of. The contact people never seem to be there and our calls are never returned. They were more than willing to take my money and put these extras on the truck when I bought it, but now that it's off the lot it's a whole different story. If I was in their position and wanted repeat customers and new customers by word of mouth from existing customers, I'd certainly take better care of the ones I already have.

They donot wash it out with water. The blow it out with compressed air and then wipe it out with accetone.

I believe what happened is your corners were sprayed to thin leaving a pourous layer of liner. It looks completely coated but is'nt. It is hard to see.

This will happen when someone is trying to get thier job done to quick.

Those guys in that liner shop are under alot of pressure sometimes having to spray over 12 trucks in a day. Your truck was not sprayed by Dave Smith motors but by Turboliner Corporate. Thier head quarters is just a few blocks from Dave Smith Motors.

Yup,

Cracked on both sides, It is the only place the cracking is happening (for now). And this area was sprayed twice. Left 4 messages at the dealership (Dave Smith Motors) accessory department over two months ago and none of my messages were ever returned. Just wanted to pass on what I am experiencing with my bedliner, I'll keep my opinions to myself.

Ah Hah!

That is why my phone calls are not being returned. I will try to get ahold of turbo liner corporate. I guess my salesman was wrong when he said Dave Smith Motors owns turboliner. Geesch

I agree. But I believe it's the whole bed, not just the corners on mine. Where the liner has come off in other places you can see the liner is very thin.

When I inquired about a bed liner before I bought the truck, the guy who is in charge of the accessories department(Ryan) told me they do bed liners there. They invented a formula, TURBO LINER, and own their own spray booth.

I'm confused!?

I am a turboliner dealer. They are two seperate companies. They do have a close working relationship so it is easy to see how a salesman could get confused. If you want answers contact John Powers at 1-877-678-8726. He is one of Turboliners tech reps. The problem with the spray shop in Kellogg is that it is also a training facility. Although the trainning instructors do an excellent job, I can see it being possible that one or two trucks every now and then may not get the correct thickness sprayed on them.

Don't be affraid. When done right there will be no rust under the liner. Make sure you tell them you want the old liner taken off in the problem areas and re preped. All should be well when finished. Make sure you tell them that you're making posts on this issue on a highly viewed Dodge truck forum. ;)

Blacksheep, when you spray liners, how thick do you normally go? I was told it would be 1/8'', but it's more like 1/16''. When I got my '97 sprayed, I told them 3/16''. I've drilled many holes in that bed to mount things and the thickness thru out is consistent, 3/16''.

Do you know of any Turbo Liner dealers in Wisconsin or surrounding states?

I must admit I was dissappointed in the thickness of my Turboliner. I realize it is a harder material than the Rhinoliners in my other trucks, but this one was sprayed real thin also. I live in San Diego,92117 area. I guess I need to call the corporate headquarters and see if a Turboliner shop is nearby.

It should be sprayed at 1/8 inch in thickness. This is the standard thickness Turboliner has set for its application. There is a dealer in Chippewa Falls WI.

Phone# is 715-833-0444.

Thickness should be 1/8". You have to remember that although it is alot thinner than Rhino it is much tougher. 1/8" of Turboliner has more tear strength than a 1/4" of Rhino. There is a dealer in El Cajon CA. Phone # is

619-579-8888.
