Problem with renewing an ad

I am now getting e-mail notifications for something refering to "LinkBack. "

It looks like this:

Dear fkovalski,

A new LinkBack has been recorded for a thread you have participated

entitled - Nv5600 Or G56 - in the 5. 9L Engine and Transmissions

(2003-2007) forum of TDR Roundtable.

This LinkBack is located at:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ns-2003-2007/188338-nv5600-g56.html#linkbacks

The originating site is located at:

5. 9L Engine and Transmissions (2003-2007) - TDR Roundtable

Here is the associated message:

All the best,

TDR Roundtable

When I hit the "linkback" link... it brings me to the original thread, when I hit the latter link it brings me to a TDR page, but I have to log in to see it.

What is this stuff all about??

I've been researching these and haven't got it fully figured out yet. Sometimes linkbacks are created from the main forum page - which is what that one is. I haven't been able to figure out why they are sometimes created there and sometimes not. Generally linkbacks should be coming from other sites that are linking to that thread. I just disabled the email notification of those linkbacks since they seem to be confusing.

Say I put a link to a thread on my personal website. When someone clicks on that link it will now show up as a linkback at the bottom of the thread - it's saying THAT site has a link to THIS thread. There are two purposes to it. One, there may be something of interest to you on the site that's linking to that thread since it's linking there for some reason. Two, it helps with rankings on the search engines.

So... . (using your example above) ... When working properly, I should be able to link to your website via the e-mailed linkback without going to the TDR thread itself?

Uh, no. The email was just letting you know of a new linkback to your thread. In your case the linkback was a link that was on the TDR site - it could also have been a linkback that was on ABC.com . If you pull down the linkback menu to linkback url you will see that it's the exact same url that you have up at the top of your browser. Take a look at this thread for example - https://www.turbodieselregister.com...toilet-paper-bypass-oil-filter.html#linkbacks . Scroll to the bottom and you'll see linkbacks there from explorerforum.com, theoildrop.com, and tsikot. yehey.com. If you click on the link under "posted by" you'll be taken to the page that has the link on it - here's one from explorerforum.com - look at post #5. Because that link was there and someone clicked on it that page is now shown as a linkback on that thread and if you were the post starter you would have gotten an email notification letting you know that there was a new linkback to that thread (you won't get those any longer because I turned them off). Make sense now?
