I am curious about this too, we never got a follow up from the TDR editors when they were going to spend time with the engineers that designed the 68rfe, that was a couple months ago when alot of us submitted questions for the Chrysler engineer. I think the C&C with the Aisin is rated at 305/610, and the 68rfe is rated at 350/650. But I think Aisin makes transmissions for heavy duty trucks etc, the 4500 and 5500 has the Aisin if I am not mistaken.

I've driven a 3500 CC Aisin and they're pretty dang impressive. I would bet the Aisin is fundamentally stouter than 68RfE. The lower HP/Torque numbers are just for the intended market.

I'm curious how the aftermarket will respond to the 305hp vs the 350hp version.

The power is secondary for me, but the trans is key, due to the failures we've had in that area.

I towed 10K worth of trailer for the last two weeks and all I can say is WOW! Sure, I've been driving around town for the last 6 months. One fingered towing is really amazing. White knuckles with lots of power is a thing of the past. We're looking at upgrading the RV to a 5'er a few thousand pounds heavier just because I now feel we have a truck very capable.

Yes, I used the exhaust brake twice in 4k miles, but only because it was fun to here the exhaust noise. The transmission does just fine up and down the hills.

If I had to change something on the 68RFE it would be the downshifting. It might be nice to have a smoother downshift on decelleration, but I might be a little picky.

(OT) BrakeSmart?

I'm running one, 63,000 miles with no problems yet. 90%+ of the miles are towing heavy.

EB,

I note the BrakeSmart in your sig. I'm thinking about ordering one soon.

Could you comment on your experience with it? (maybe in a new thread, I don't mean to hijack this one ;)

If you already have, I'd appreciate a link.

Thanks,

Simple answer, this is the third truck I've had it on. It probably has over 500k on it and has never given me a minutes problem. If you tow heavy or often it is worth the price, even if you don't, it's worth the price in my opinion. If something did happen to this one, I'd get another one tomorrow.

I second what EB said. The BrakeSmart is the best brake controler I have used. My Jorden was good but this one is even better.
