I never had gone down this slippery slope before. Of course it all may be tied to this divorce thing I am soldiering through. Having to sell all my other toys and stick with one vehicle for a while meant it was going to have to be upgraded:-laf That, and there is no longer somebody poo-pooing my desire to extract some extra from my truck;)

When I bought this truck it had already been straight piped. I figured, if it going to sound tough, then we need to back it up a little. I started thinking mild, maybe a Quad XZT tow box or an Edge EZ. That quickly fell to second for the standard QZ box good for 100hp and 200lb/ft. I'm not ready to start on the rest of the drivetrain so I held myself to that box. In go the gauges, then I find that EGTs are getting too high, I have to watch too closely, and don't use the 100hp setting often. I try the swiss cheese airbox, not enough. I broke down and ordered an S&B intake system and a CFM intake horn to get some more flow through on the front end.

Scary thing is, I drove a 2500 Hemi for a while thinking it would be enough to fill my need for speed. Couldn't do it, had to go back to a Cummins. Now it has gotten so bad I feel like the stock settings are just too weak for passing around here:{

Hopefully I can now resist further mods. A bigger turbo sure sounds nice and so do bigger injector nozzles. My wallet just can't take that kind of pain right now. So to those thinking about it... BEWARE, it is really hard to stop!

I here ya, if I wasn't married I'd be flat broke with a badass truck and no one to love me and no place to live..... :rolleyes:

I had never been a bomb sort of person. Outside of maybe opening up an exhaust system when the stock one died or putting on a little better air filter and associated hardware, I have always left my vehicles stock.

Then I decided to buy a used 1993 Miata for a run-about vehicle. Well, let me tell you, bombing fever got me, and I went crazy with it. Greddy turbo, custom stainless exhaust, modded the suspension, all the goodies. It's probably one of the hottest little cars around, real fun to drive, etc. It cruises REAL NICE at about 120 mph.

Along comes the need for a new truck, the oldie has been around for 18 years, so I get the 2006 Dodge. Now I told myself right from the start that this truck was truly already a workhorse, lots of power with the Cummins, stick would be perfect, etc, etc, etc - just fine the way it is, has real beauty.

I have been playing with all sorts of stuff. I tried to just put a good drop-in filter and mod the air box, now I have the Ice Box Intake, Cool Blue Hose, added the GDP Intake Horn, and kept within reason regarding the exhaust, only did the ME, but at that point I was in the 'what the heck' mode so added an exhaust tip - 20" Hog Performance. All but the tip DID lower my EGT's so justified. I worried about oil filtration, 3rd injector event, acids in the oil, finally added a bypass filter. Then all the stuff about fuel filtering, damages from 5-7 micron particles, had to add the 2-micron. I played with a Quad STD box, mostly used the 60hp for towing, EGT's did not make me happy, so now a Smarty. Of course you HAVE to have gauges, so put them in. I hated the pregnant rollerskate look of the stock tires, so went to 315's. I have to say that bombing has an entirely NEW meaning as you move along through all of this stuff.

Good news is, I really have no obstructions to doing the truck stuff, better half would rather see me enjoying the truck stuff, good for relaxation/hobby so to speak. I have empty nest, kids are grown and gone, so I have more money, lots more money actually, I was really suprised as to how much the kids really cost annually.

Bombing CAN become a true sickness, no different probably than gambling, drinking, etc. You do have to try to manage not to be excessive, but it sure is FUN!!!

I solved the no place to live part as well. I bought one of those truck tents that fits over the box. I found an air mattress that fits around the wheel humps. Actually works really well! Still working on finding someone to love me though:-laf
