I've thought about adding one for a while because the theft of diesel trucks seems to be on the rise. Are there easy to install commercial kill switches available for them, or is it better to doi it yourself? Also, do you think it would be secure enough if I put the switch behind the flap in the compartment for the cupholder? I've always thought that might be a good place to hide a lot of things.

The dealer accessory EVS-II system will provide Sentry key protection for less than $400 installed. The Interior Theft Sensor component was worthless (lots of false alarms even after adjusting), so I have unpluged that part.

A hidden kill switch connect to the clutch safety switch isn't a bad idea, but I've never heard of a Sentry key being defeated except by using a flatbed.

Issue 53 page 36 of the TDR has great pictures and instructions on the kill switch for the 3rd generation written by Robert Patton. The wiring took only 15 minutes. Finding the perfect place and other parts with the instalation took another hour. Email me and I'll share my great hiding place with you.

I had a 2002 with a kill switch and when I traded it in the sales man couldn't start the truck. I jumped in and started the truck and told the salesman "I guess that you don't know much about these trucks, Do you?"

I have the Ravelco and the factory EVS alarm system, also the JimmiJammers for the doors, tailgate, and tail lights. Park my truck in such a way that a wrecker would have a hard time getting it loaded - back into all praking spaces if possible, e brake on and the wheels turned.

I think y'all misunderstood what I meant. I was referring to a switch that could be used to actually kill the person trying to steal the truck. :-laf:-laf:-laf

But seriously, folks... I like the idea of the Ravelco. Sounds like a solid product, but it also seems to be a bit more pricey than what I was thinking. I am also considering the problems that would arise if I lost the cap and couldn't get the truck started. What does the Ravelco run, price wise?

The Sentry key also has it's good points, but isn't that the key that costs close to $150 to replace if it goes bad or gets lost?

For some reason I'm hooked on the concept of a kill switch. It's simple. I can install it myself. It's always in the truck. If the switch fails there is an easy work around to get the truck started. The only downside is that if a thief finds it the work around is just as easy for them as it is for me. I didn't see the TDR article, but I'll check it out today.

Thanks for the responses.

If you look in the classifieds, there was a dealer selling off some merchandise, got my Ravelco for 100 bucks and plan on installing it myself. I can PM anyone that is interested his email address, just ask.
