Interesting Talk with Valvoline Rep today...

Hey there! I called valvoline about the Premium Blue CLassic CI4+ today. I was refered to the West coast Rep that handles orders in my area. He told me that we are not likely to see much of the product, if any, on the west coast as there has been no demand for it. He siad that all companies that were previously ordering the CI4+ have all switched to the CJ formula ( Readily available) and have not been having any issues. This is with both 07 emissions trucks and older models. I asked if I could order it and he said that Valvoline will not likely ship in the smaller containers if at all and the cost would be pretty unreasonable.



SO I guess until I see it with my own eyes, we won't be having the classic anywhere soon out here!!

Now, where ARE those members who insisted (blindly swallowing "official" ad hype... ) that the CI4 stuff "would be available at LEAST thru 2010... " :-laf:-laf:-laf

The regional rep said that the CJ stuff was actually UPGRADED from the CI4+ and to go backwards will work but it's like using older technology... LOLOLOL Who knows...

Only THIng I DON't LIKE I might add is how the PB CJ stuff was rated by the TDR study!!

I buy Mystik 15w50 by the 55 gal. drum and it's CI4+. It is also available in 2 gal. jugs.

Engineers at both Chevron & Schaeffer's Oil Co. told me, pretty much, the same thing. Seems to be a "standard answer".



I would imagine that the companies tell their employees NOT to tell the customers that the NEW product has 'limitations'. Almost can't blame them, for that.



With all the negative comments & articles regarding the NEW CJ-4, it's interesting that a few folks have gotten reasonably good UOA's from the new stuff with extended oil drain intervals. Even with the "good" information, I still stocked up on 5 cases of Delo, CI-4+. I'm still not convinced that the CJ-4 is all that good, as the oil companies say it is. I'd rather not be the Guinea Pig for the oil companies!!!!! Especially, if there is a "known" quality product available (CI-4+).

I don't mean to be a pirate, but is Drydene Oil still around? Years ago, when we had a small(very) fleet, I had excellent success with the 15w-40 Dieselall Fleet Oil. I know they were bought by Castrol at some point. Another name that used to be a good can of oil is Lubriplate http://www.lubriplate.com/

I guess you could call it that. Others might call it a war...



Seriously though, there is a debate over the new oil specifications and which ones (brands and old formula) preform better. There was a review published in the latest TDR magazine that reviewed many different types of oil. Surprisingly the Amsoil 5W-40 didn't do so well. I wish they had reviewed the 15W-40... .

My dealer had a parts sale this weekend. I just bought 16 gallons ( 4 cases) of the MOPAR HD 15/40 CI4+ MAP PRO oil. Enough to get me quite a ways down the road. DOes anyone have an opinion of this oil?

As I understand it the issue seems to be that CJ is not as detergent as CI. Correct me if I am misinformed(I am sure someone will. For awhile one could purchase detergent additive @ Wal-Mart. Are the detergents the same for gas as for diesel? Could one purchase a couple of bottles and add them to CJ to help suspend the debris?

Not JUST detergents, but other additives as well, such as zinc and other wear reducing agents...

Perhaps a response to the rep like:



"I will buy oil from a company willing to provide CI-4+ with quality similar to the former Valvoline Premium Blue. If Valvoline will not provide it then I won't be using Valvoline products any longer. "



I told the NAPA dealer here that if he wouldn't provide Classic that I would find somebody else to deal with. I ordered a 55 gal drum of Schaeffer's 7000, and I won't darken the doors of the local Napa dealer again. They wouldn't even check to see if they could get it.

My Local NAPA blew me off too!! I ALMOST bought 2 5 gallon pails of the NAPA Valovine Fleet plus but decided against it. I actually ordered 16 gallons of the MOPAR oil from my dealer as they were having a sale. . That will get me by to Synthetic time!

Oil Storage Life

I've been stocking up on Delo CI4 oil in 5 gallon pails. From what I been able to find out is that oil in the sealed container has a 5 year life so there is now way we will be able to stock up for life on this stuff. Does anybody have any better oil storage life information?

I see Drydene trucks here in eastern PA. , 500-1000 gal tanks. Looks like they do commercial and fleet stuff. Don't see any in the small jugs.
