OK, here goes. After totaling my 01 last month, I am now dealing with the Insurance co. Never having an accident where a vehicle was totaled, I don't know what to do.

It was a clean well maintined 01 H. O. Short bed quad cab. Well loaded w/o leather. 166000 miles. I was offered $11100. 00 to settle. Told them that was unacceptable. Asked him to find one like mine for that price and I would buy it.

They go by a program called C. C. C. Talked to Ed Wallace, The Car Guy, on the radio, to find out what that was. It is a program the Car dealers#@$%! go by and the insurance companys,#@$%! to value vehicles. Said there are appx 4 MILLION vehicles in it. Was told to basically do my own comps and get the information he used and a list of the vehicles he compared mine to.

If anyone knows someone selling a similar truck, let me know so I can get the details for my on comps. Thanks Bobby Feel free to PM me.

I totaled my 1996 about a year ago they offered me $7200 with the 10k in reciepts for accesories, performance parts, and other new parts that had been changed to get the truck looking new again. It had 240k but I rebuilt the engine 10k miles before that and had reciepts for most of the rebuild. I told them no way in nevada both the owner and insurance company then get an independent apraiser both apraisers due their work then the two apraisers agree on a value if they dont or you still dont agree with the valuation then it gos before an arbitrator and what the arbitrator decides is final.

I ended up with 10k and the truck well worth the $120 appraisel, cause if I had settled I would have had $5200 and the truck. The truck apraised for 12k by the way.

In 96 I lost my 90 F150 (god did me a favor 8mpg city & 11 hwy) in a flood. Anyway the thing I had to do was keep not accepting what the insurance company was offering and holding out. They wanted to give me $8200 and I had just purchased it for $11,250 the October before and sunk about $1000 in accessories. I made friendly with the adjuster in fact I would him on a daily basis to see how things were going. They finally settled with in $200 of the $10,500 that I was looking for.

In your case since they are using the same program auto dealers are for price comparison, go to an on line site like cars.com, or the like, and search for your truck but "only" at dealerships. Print several (4 - 6) of your finds with comparable miles etc. for them and tell them this is what you'll accept. Don't forget your bombs or accessories - do the same go on line and print out the costs.

They are trying to give you what a dealarship would "pay" for a truck not what they expect to "sell" it for so that's why I suggested seeking dealer prices on line. The insurance company will make every effort to wear you down to accept the offer. Turn it around on them tell them "I've nothing but time and can wait, what's your name and number?, you start at what time in the morning?" "Thanks - I'll talk to you then" And, then call every morning leaving as many voice messages as necessary until you physically get to speak to the person you are calling. Turn it around on them and wear them down - they work for you - your premiums pay their salary. It took me 3 weeks to finally get what I wanted from State Farm, they expect people ot be in dyre straites for the money and think theat people will just accept what they offer along with their lame *** logic of how they arrived at the amount. Whether you are in dyre straits or not never let them know - never let them see you sweat.

Good luck and glad you weren't hurt.

I've never had to deal with it, but have a few friends that have.

They have all just held out.

The ins. co wants you to just take what they offer and run along.

Call other dealers, used and new. Especially ones that specialize in used diesels.

Good luck,

KO

Was the accident your fault? Is it your insurance trying to lowball you? My friend got hit in an intersection, they totaled out his truck which was a 98Toyota Tacoma 2wd v6, he got 12 grand for it, your truck has to be worth more, they will try to give you as little as possible, but you have to fight them. Search on autotrader.com, ebay, trucktrader.com, find the highest price vehicles that are similiar to yours.

Yes the accident was my fault. I was approaching a major curve going into downtown Dallas, Texas on I-35. I could see the truck ahead, was doing about 60 mph. Checked my mirrors and looked over my shoulder on the drivers blindspot to switch lanes to the left and when I turned around to switch lanes, not only was there an 18 wheeler stopped, as in parked, in the right lane  but there was a suburban stopped, as in parked, in the left lane :eek: also even with the back of the semi trailer. Guess what, no where to go. There were concrete barriers on either side. Sudden impact, about 45 mph, on the passengers side, the turbo hit the drivers side rearend edge of the trailer. The firewall on the passengers side is pushed back about 6-8 inches and the cab is buckled. :{:{:{ I got out of the truck to collect my thoughts, crossed a lane of traffic, since no one was coming, they were stopped, back a ways, and I turn around and notice the guy is driving off with my truck stuck under his trailer. He drove about a half mile. Heard him say later that he did not even feel the impact since he was loaded with, get this, 41000 POUNDS OF SHOCK ABSORBERS, no kidding.

Steve, thanks for the comps. Not to many 4x2 short bed quad cab 6 speed trucks out there, even here in Texas. In the sites suggested, I have found exactly ZERO I did find one 2002 w/97000 miles, automatic shortbed quad cab. Price, $17800. 00

Thanks to all again. Bobby

Just keep looking, must be some nearby. Went through something similar last year with my 89 4 Runner, got whacked by a flatbed wrecker while I was yielding the right of way to oncoming traffic. was offered" $1000 and they wanted the truck:rolleyes:, I kindly :-laf:eek: told them what to do with that idea!! As a courtesy my attorney took care of it for me and got me $2900 for PD and I'm still driving it today, still with caved in tailgate/hatch and bumper. Now I'm awaiting the big $$$ to come in and redo the poor thing, its been a great truck considering what I do with it! :D

i work at a bodyshop here in indiana and the insurance has to pay you a. c. v. valve of the truck ,,, (actual cash valve) plus sales tax or replace it ,, but yes they will low ball ya first ,,, go on (n. a. d. a .com) and kelly blue book add the two and divide by 2 and get the average and start from there ...
