I am looking to upgrade my stock 48RE. My 4x4 2003 HO has been a joy to own, but I am now addicted to going down the track periodically with my foot on the floor. I want to upgrade my transmission to pave the way for rock solid reliability doing 98% normal driving with occasionally towing my 5000 lb boat/trailer. Maybe one weekend a month I'd like ot make a dozen passes down the track at my eventual goal of low 12 second quarter miles. I am wanting to support around 600-700 horses. Is the 68rfe available to retofit yet to older rams? Who has the best parts/service on a built up 48re? I have heard some good some bad on older posts about ATS, but Suncoast is only a hour drive from me. I just feel a bit silly with the idea of putting 6 grand or more into a prehistoric design 4 speed auto, no matter how tough it is. I think I read that mercededes has come out with an 8 speed auto for one of their big sedans... so thinking about wanting 5 or 6 speeds for a truck with an already narrow rpm band seems reasonable. I am hearing nightmare prices at times north of 8 grand for a built 48RE. What gives?

"YEA" me too I want to know who makes the best ( longest lasting) auto trans for a 4. 5 year 3500 with over 600 hp?
