Genos transmission temp adapter: never-sieze as a heat conducting grease?

Guys, I'm getting ready to install a transmission temp guage and I'm using the transmission temp adapter that Genos sells. This is the one that goes on the output line to the cooler. They say to use never-sieze compound as a replacement for heat sink grease. This seem like a good idea? I just don't know how well never-sieze conducts heat... .

Don't have a real answer, except that I used it, and have had it on for a little over three months, seems to work well.

No worries. Anti-seize works like a CHAMP! stands up well to heat, and helps your threads in a big way.



The following items should be used "liberally" in any auto application:



1) Anti-Seize for most threads. Lubricates and prevents CORROSION!

2) Dielectric Grease for most electrical connections. (keeps O2 out)

3) Zip Ties to seperate wires from heat sources.

4) Duct Tape,,, 100 MPH tape,,, Limitless uses...

5) Bungy Cords. Need I say anymore?

6) 12 Pack of you favorite BEER!

Well, the temp guage is in there!! I had kinda figured that it would run hotter than this though. Driving around town unloaded the temp guage is showing no hotter than 160. It does seem to go up in a hurry, but doesn't go down too quickly. The ambient temp is about 70, and the engine was at 185. That sound normal?



I usually use never-sieze on threads, I had just never heard of it as a heat transferring grease before. I know what you mean about the duct tape too. A friend of mine flew A-4's in the Navy. Once, he was about to get launched off a carrier when he noticed there was a small panel on the wing that was missing. A mechanic came over to look at it, and proceeded to put a piece of duct tape over the hole... .

Lots of threads about "normal" transmission temps. 160 around town is pretty typical since you rarely achieve T/C lockup. I think you'll find slightly cooler temps out on the road and unless you're towing heavy you're not likely to see it get above 190. I try to keep mine below about 195 when towing hills. It does take longer to cool down than to heat up but with the sensor on the cooling line, you're measuring fluid at it's hottest.

Thanks Dan! I'm pretty tempted to go hook up to the boat and drag it around to see how hot the transmission gets... Now that I've got this thing in there, an inquiring mind wants to know!!

You can buy a tube of heatsink grease at any RadioShack.

What You Need Is Silicone Grease To Transfer Heat Between Two Surfaces That Do Not Match Perfectly. Just Call Around Or Check Out Radio Shack.
