Traded CTD, going back to a gasser.

Since I no longer have a need to pull anything heavy I decided to go back to a quieter, better riding and lower the ground 1/2 ton. Since I was going with a half ton gasser I went with the new Chevy. So far, after 2 weeks I am very pleased. I have some Husky Liners, seat covers, a winter front and some oil filters on the classfieds. I would probably make somebody a heck of a deal on all of it.

Enjoy the new CAR. Not trying to rip you, I just have never understood half ton trucks. If I didn't need/want a truck, I would buy a car. If I need/want a truck, there is no substitute for the real thing.



Just do us all a favor and put some bigger tires on that bugger. Those things look hiddeous with the little stock tires

Can't tell you what to do. But, I'd do a major re-think.



However, a person's got to do, what a person's got to do.



I'd hold out for a new 1/2 ton Diesel in the next year or two.



You're going to miss out on the "Diesel Thing".

other than the poor depreciation/resale value, there are some attractive 1/2 ton gas offerings out there, but I gotta hear that sweet I6 turbo song!!!!

I'm not arguing that Forrest! I will never go back to gas, but that doesn't mean that someone that has did anything "wrong" whether we agree with it or not.

I don't see anything wrong with it... lots of my buddies have 1/2 trucks. they don't pull anything, and some of them move out pretty good!

It's nice to see someone who buys a truck based on need and not want. You won't regret it.

My only question: How many times have you waited for the turbo to kick in and then get a little depressed when it doesn't?

I just finished putting a 1992 Range Rover back on the road for the wife to drive this winter. After 140,000 miles the engine doesn't use any oil, and all is well. But I'm waiting the day when it does. I'd love to put something like a 4BT in it. Alright, I might have to put some Isuzu in it.

She's been driving the '04, but probably thinks the Rover is more lady like. I don't know, but I'm betting she wants the '04 back in about a month.

I almost bought a new Silverado a few months ago.



By far the nicest driving truck on the market. It does literally drive like a car. Good power too with the 5. 3 and 3. 73's or 4. 10's (drove 'em both, along with all the other 1/2 ton offerings).



The interior, ride quality and build quality is the best in the industry when comparing 1/2 tons. In fact I had high expectations for the new Tundra, but it was junk! It's amazing to me that Toyota held back production to "bring up" the interior quality to Chevrolet's level. It simply isn't as nice.



I personally couldn't pull the trigger, as I knew I'd miss the CTD too much and end up trading it after a few months for what I really want. A few months later and I'm back in a CTD!



Congratulations on your new truck. I'm sure it will serve you well.



With the $$$ you saved on getting a 1/2 ton gasser, maybe you have enough left over to find yourself a nice 12v to play with

I know I'd have a hard time trading my CTD for anything else. I'd still keep it even if I didn't need it.

i've thought of doing the exact same thing--diesel is now . 36 higher than gas here. the whole reason i went to diesel in the first place is cheaper fuel and higher mpg. the new chevy gasser gets 20 mpg, which is better than what i get with the diesel.

Plus, i'd be getting something that is actually made in the USA.

I don't think I could get rid of my truck, I like it too much. Have an '89 Ford dually-360 gasser I use for ranch stuff, it IS a good reminder of why I went diesel. When I need great gas mileage and not hauling anything I drive my Turbo Miata, gets over 40mpg, makes up for the lower mileage. When I want the truck feel and 4x4 I drive my Jeep TJ. I do not think I could ever go down to a 1/2 ton only.



Congrats on the new truck, we all have to make choices in life for what suits our needs in the moment.

I drove the Ford and a 1/2 ton Dodge and the ride and quiet of the Chevy was by far the best.

Funny you should ask that. I find myself still driving out of my way to the station that has diesel.

It's got the 6. 0 Vortec Max, which is rated at 360 hp so it has some get up and go. It is actually very responsive out of the hole.

My question is: did you have the diesel paid off, and were you able to buy the new truck outright?

I didn't have it paid off, but with the 0% interest I was able to lower my payment and it will be paid off the same time the CTD would have.
