I have a friend at work that was telling me his buddy just had to have a new Ford with the newly designed engine. I mentioned to him that certain work on the new Fords they have to remove the cab, he told me his buddies truck has had it removed 3 times . Seems the head gaskets are not holding up and in order to get the heads off guess what needs to come off. According to him his buddy ain't too worried about it cause as he said "It's under warranty. " He asked his buddy what he was going to do when the warranty ran out, he told him he would trade it off. Seems that Ford has a plan to keep it's customers in new vehicles are loose them to the competition.

Interesting. I was thinking the other day that after the maelstrom of horror stories surrounding the 6. 0, it has been eerily quiet on the 6. 4 front. Are they still eating head gaskets like Doritos like the 6. 0? I had read a post from a Ford tech on another board that they had seen several catastrophic failures, like broken con rods on bone stock trucks. I don't know if it is true.

Maybe somebody "in the know" will chime in the the 6. 4 Powerdork.

I know they are not getting good mileage at all. The best I have seen on The Diesel Stop is 15, the average being about 10-12.

Most bad-mpg truck owners over there say, "I didn't buy it for the mileage. "

I bet though, if it got high-teens/low 20's, they would be bragging it up!

We shouldn't be too smug tho, our new 07's also need the cab removed to do any serious engine work. My friend is the mechanic at the dealer here and he said that it was eaiser to remove the cab bolts, disconnect the electrical connectors and stuff than disassemble the front end to accomplish the work. As far as gasket and stuff like that, I don't know. I haven't been following the new trucks as mine is properly valved. :)

OK, serious engine work accomplished,

Than Serious electrical problems from all the wire disconnects ????

Ain't NO 07's in my future , or 08's, 09's, etc..... NEVER, NEVER NEVER

I'll run old iron forever or until I die, which ever comes first ... .

I wouldnt say its easier to work on the new trucks by removing the cab... sure you could get to the rear of the engine better, but all the effort in pullin the cab would negate the ease. You can still pull the head or swap injectors and what-not with the cab inplace. You can pull the engine easier then removing the cab

I am curious, I am a design engineer in the railroad, and I would be thrown to the wolves if I designed something that required a major component to be pulled (such as a drivers cab) to be repaired.

What ever happened to simple design that could actually be worked on?

I would just consider this a stupid design (by any automaker). But I guess they do not want you to keep the vehicle for more than 3 years.

My brother-in-law just told me that his 08 Powerjoke super duty, 6. 4, 4x4 long bed is getting 21 plus MPG empty on the HWY. Can anyone believe that?

I was reading Car & Driver at Lunchtime ( I know, but I had finished TDR for the 2nd time ) and their F-250 CC SB King Ranch test truck weighs (Are you ready for this,) 86K+ No wonder they don't get high teens for milage. Moose

Don't assume pulling the cab is a bad thing. If they designed it that way it's probably better than trying to work on something in a difficult spot. You could spend 4 hrs pulling the cab or beat your head against a wall for 20 hrs trying to get to a hidden part.

I know the easiest way to pull the engine in a 4th generation camaro is to drop it out from underneath. Pulling it the old fashion way takes twice as long.
