Are your tailpipes still clean?? I'm wondering cause my buddies w/11,xxx miles is still clean, and my dads with 8,5xx miles is sooted. His fender and bumper look like a bombed 5. 9's fender:-laf No CEL's or codes either.
 
After working on vehicles for many years and seeing the change from pre emission to post emission I'd suggest that your dads 07 has an issue..... with post emission vehicles the tail pipe should be clean because the trap and cat should be doing their jobs and only clean exhaust should be exiting the tail pipe. .
 
Called dealer today, no codes, nothin they can do. Told them the tail pipe was sooted(along with fender) and got "well sir you know its a diesel, and diesels produce soot":eek:
 
I am in the middle of dealing with that right now. I suggest trying another dealer as some know a little bit more about these trucks than others. I have had a new DPF and a new sensor installed and I still have black smoke. Good luck!!
 
My tailpipe is totally sooted up along with the rear fender. Just got the AU reflash Wednesday. All is good according to the dealer. It runs great now. No codes. Obviously soot is making its way past the DPF.
 
I was told yesterday that there is new software in the rev. b which has to do with AU. There is no tsb or part number. I though I needed it, really still do. Went to the dealer yesterday with cel on I assumed it 245a again since it was stored in the system. It was that and low transmission line pressure do to installing my temp guage in the hot line and about a gallon of fluid ran out. I hope thats all it was. Back to p245a my egr is hitting the sound proofing under the hood, it finally works the plug out some and cel goes on and off. Solution is going to be cut some material out and replace egr valve again if cel gives p245a again.
 
My truck is at the dealer right now for the AU flash, and a oil change. I am trying to decide now if I want to pay $600 for the lifetime oil change thing. Only allowed 4 per year so it would take 3 years to pay off at $50 a pop. I am kinda tired of changing my own oil... . hmmmmm
 
Good Day all. I have one of those new sterling trucks and it has 17,000 km on it and the tail pipe is so clean that I would eat off it. The truck has the 8. 3L cummins with all the new emisson stuff on it. I like the truck and the motor and it get 20L/100km pull a trailer thet is at 30,000 lbs mark. It gets better fuel milage then the dodge. I have a 02 6spd with 4:10s and I was getting 25-30L/100km pull only 20,000 lbs. So I have to say is That the new cummins with all the new emisson is a good thing. Wow I never thought I would say that.

My dealer had the same thing happen to a truck they sold and come to find out the DPF was cracked internally and alowing soot to make it to the tail pipe hope this helps
 
I got only 100 miles on my truck and No black in the tail pipe.

Sorry, had to do it, I just picked it up 3 hrs ago.

I will pay the 600 for the life oil changes. Did not get that info with I got my truck, just the 59 per oil change and tire rotation everyother change.

I just got the lifetime oil change my self. I figured what the heck I always put at least 250k on my trucks so it will pay for its self.

Mine is black inside, still running great at almost 8,000 miles and no ECM updates.
 
Truck runs great and the fuel mileage has gone up quite a bit. Highway/city mix is 16mpg's now. I did notice everytime you get on it will puff some. On start-up it will also puff some.
 
Update

Got truck back from dealer yesterday with a re-flash and nothing else. Dealer did say that I better hope the DPF isnt broken because its a non warranty item, it wear and tear. Trucks got 10,000miles on it. Looks like stacks are gonna go on sooner than expected if all the emmisions crap isnt under waranty.
 
After getting the latest reflash my truck has stopped sooting the fender and bumper but the tail pipe is still black. I actually cleaned out the tailpipe at least what I could reach, just so I could notice any change. DPF a wear item eh? Great.



I'm missing my non-catalyst '03 more and more. All in all though the 07 runs real strong. I do miss the throttle response of the old 5. 9 though.

Tell your dealer they are full of it. Look in your warranty book, the warranty on the emissions equipment is 50,000 miles, I forget what the time limitation is. That includes the DPF.

Being that the DPF is a part of the emissions system, I thought by law it had to be warranted for 100k?
