Have any Canadians bought their trucks in the US? Does anyone know how warranty works on a new truck brought into Canada? Import or taxes?

Thanks

ahh yes, with the US dollar so low and now on par with the canadian dollar - I have heard alot of people buying a new truck/car from a broker and taking back to canada.

I am not sure regarding warranty

Make sure

I had a buddy check into buying a new truck from a dealership in Grand Forks; when the salesman found out he was from Canada he informed him that he couldn't sell him a new truck and could only sell a used truck that had at least 7500 miles on it!!!!

The salesman referred to a deal that was struck between the two governments and the US/Canadian automakers to protect the Canadian auto industry. This was just this week, so you should probably try to find out.

On a side note, my buddy wanted his name to be put on a list and the salesman told him he currently has over 500 names on a list for a used vehicle!!!!!

Remember vehicles brought into Canada need to meet Canadian standards. Metric system you know, dash needsto be changed ,add day time running lights etc. One guy reported it cost him 3000. 00 to meet requirements. Still will have to pay GST and PST.

As I currently understand it, Honda and DC void the warrenty as soon as a vehicle is registered in another country. Toyota has no problem with it.

The vehicle only needs be 14 days old, so my broker tells me. They have an american buy it and then tranfer it to a canadian.

As for DRL, they can be turned on in most cars today. speedometers that have minor sclae in kms is OK in canada, warning stickers must be bilingual, and therefore are replaced.

it's worth to import, so check into it.

I understand that in Ontario this week a class action lawsuit against GM, DC,Ford, Honda has been filed. plaintifs are seeking $1. 2B. should be interesting.

good luck

The changes in the dash are minor as I'm quite used to reading my oil press in psi not kpa and the water temp in celcius not farenheit(grew up driving a 68 chevy p/u. ) Never heard of anyone getting pulled over for not having light's on during the day, but there's a first for everything I suppose. From what I've seen for sale and what people buy they're trucks for pricewise, I could save about $14,000. Friggin rediculous this scam that automakers/canadian govt have goin on. Will be contacting a broker soon. Found this website for anyone who's interested.

I purchased a used 2006 in the US. Warranty with DC is voided, however, I purchased aftermarket warranty, and still am many dollars to the good. DRL's can be enabled by a reflash at a dealer. Import inspections are handled by any Canadian Tire store. The only thing they want to see is DRL's, axle weights and GVW. Guages are no problem, just add a sticker below odometer stating it reads in miles.
