LIFT PUMP RELIABILITY-EXTERNAL vs IN TANK

HI,



Coming from a 1999 CTD (139,000 m) and 4 or 5 new lift pumps (even after relocating the lift pump to the frame)... I was wondering if the failure rate was greatly reduced with the factory intank lift pump?

The reason I ask, is that I'm contemplating the installation of something along the lines of a mechanical fuel boss design for my new 2007 CTD 5. 9.

I. m not interested in an additional electric pump though.

I have to conclude from the general lack of talk about in tank pump failures that they are not failing very often.

My block mounted "lift" pump crapped out @ ~90,000 ... ... ... . my in-tank "pusher" pump has lasted ~245,000 so far!

In Tank Pump quit with 91,000 on the clock

:{Well it haappened today, thought it was a 98-02 issue. Not for me, My 03with 91000 on the clock just 3 miles from my home in Eagle River AK, she put me on the side of the road. Lucky for my neighbor I called hiim & he towed me home with his 05 2500 with 12000 on the clock. I'm ordering the FASS 150, I know my neighbor will be keeping a close eye on my project. It was the in tank pump by the way. :{

I didn't have a gauge on mine PRE-intake move, however when it failed at 70K. the dealer tossed it in tank for me and it was consistent at 9psi. Tho with my fuel, I'd pull it down to 0. I coughed up the $600bones to get an air dog. 14psi all day long, 12 at WOT.



All my factory stuff is in place. I have the bajo at home to plumb in the factory supply and a quick wire re-splice and my stock system (intank) is operational.



Do the intank! the only way to go.

Lost first in tank at 120,00+-(2004. 5), then had 2 more gave me truoble. Went to a FASS. But I do run 100,000 miles a year.

If your gonna pay for it out of your pocket, go aftermarket. Airdog, FASS etc. .

If your gonna pay for it out of your pocket, go aftermarket. Airdog, FASS etc. .

I run similar (not as many miles, but cross country stints on a weekend)...



I got a FASS mainly for the increased protection of the fuel system (better filtration)... and the fact I didn't trust the bowl mounted LP.

How many miles were on your truck when the block mounted pump that your truck came from the factory with fail?

My stock LP failed at 20,000 miles. The in-tank unit now has 60,000 miles on it, and I often wonder when it will fail.
