Got new Smarty on SW #3…engine seems to ping & knock

I just installed a PPE dual fueler, bd twin turbos, Smarty, tst and ATS intake on a 2006 automatic( full built transmission by the way). The truck runs good and everything works just as it should but when you get in it hard, it will almost shut down and sputter, then finally pick back up to idle and runs normal. I spooled it up with the brakes and it hit 65 psi and was all over the road, then it was like you cut off the switch. It just almost killed the engine, so I let off and it sputtered for a few seconds, then came up to normal idle and I mashed it again and it ran fine. Then I was cruising about 60 mph and floored it and it hit full boost and was pulling hard then done the same thing. Any ideas what this might be. Its almost like its running out of fuel, but surely it isn't with the dual pumps. I also installed a fass 150. The only thing that is still stock is the exhaust. The customer wanted to keep it quiet, but I couldn't believe he wanted all this and not an aftermarket exhaust. Could the stock exhaust be choking it down? I had the TST on 6x2 and the Smarty on wild SW#8. I haven't looked to see what the rail pressure is during a run. I pulled this stuff off my personal truck and put it all on his. It worked perfect on my truck. The trucks are identical. Both 06 megacab 4wd laramies. Any help will be appreciated.

Well, it doesn't act like a fuel issue really, it almost reacts like it would if you blew a turbo hose off and lost all boost. I will get the fuel readings today and make sure they're normal.

Blacks Diesel, If Your customers are running 500 Plus Hp they may want to look at modded Rails, modded rail should be consider on any Build. T&C has sold several hundred and I think You cannot find a complaint from anyone. Dual Pumps will produce More Volume than any 5. 9 factory rail can handle. I don't think its the problem With this build, its just part of the Performance package.

I was actually wandering if the relief valve has blown. I haven't checked it yet either. Won't have time to check anty of it until tomorrow. PM me more info on the modded rail. My truck had the stock rail and valve and has never gave any problems. This truck, when it shuts down, almost is like a sled truck shutting down when the air shutoff is engaged. Its like you just cut the air off to the engine.

I drove the truck this morning and used the TST rail Pressure guage. Cruising speed, the pressure was 15k-19k then when I got in it hard it would drop to 13k-14k and go up to 23k-24k. Then the truck just shutoff and the guage spiked to 26k and then to 0. Then the truck coasted for a few seconds and it picked back up and ran fine. I got in it several times and it finally did it again. The CEL came on and gave a code 0088 which is rail pressure too high. What to do now?

By the way, i capped the rail. The only other things I can think of that aren't exactly right on the truck is, when putting the fass on, one of my guys broke the return line fitting on the sending unit when dropping the tank. So I just ran the stock return line back to the fass retun. And the sensor that goes it the air cleaner box is just laying there. The twins didn't have a place for it and it worked fine on my truck that way.

doesnt the rail have a pressure regulator?

Yeah, but he capped it on this truck.

If you're getting rail to high, then the tst box isn't fooling the ECU as far as rail pressure is concerned (E. G. , like a boost fooler). It would make logical sense to me that if the ECU reads to high it's first response would be to get the pressure down. .

Also, what about the FCA on both CP3's? is that working correctly?

Do you have a low pressure fuel gauge on one of the CP3 inlets?

Tho, this is odd. I thought the point of dual CP3's (politically correct, twin CP3's) or a single CP3. 4 is to eliminate the "drop" in rail pressure once you get on the throttle.

disconnect the tst pressure part and see what happens. I have have nothing but problems with the pressure part of the tst box. after chasing my tail for a long time I disconnected the pressure part and truck runs way better! its worth a shot!

TST told me this very thing. Evidently some 06-07 trucks are more prone to issue then others.

Isn't there a difference in an 06 and an 06. 5?? I was thinking that TST released their box for a while for the 06. 5 and were having problems so they put not recomended for them. Might be another thing to look at. Why not try without the TST on, see if it works, then without the smarty on, see if it works, etc.
