I haven't read a single negative comment about the new 68RFE MOPAR six speed automatic. Can it be that Dodge has really done their homework and made this one nearly perfect for the appllcation?

Has anyone put any serious miles on one towing heavy yet?

My 2006 only has 205,000 miles on it and I won't replace it before 400k so I have lots of time to read reports and listen to owner comments but I'm becoming interested in both the new Ram 3500 pickup with 68RFE and the new Ram 4500 cab and chassis with Aisin AS68RC. I have driven the pickup and a 3500 c&c and like both. I would be sold on a 4500 but the Aisin automatic uses the same dumb tow/haul and overdrive lockout button in the end of the shifter that my current Dodge uses and gears must be selected by moving the shifter handle. I like the thumb shifter on the new Ram pickup's 68RFE automatic a lot better.

I had a car huler come through the shop with about 100k,no transmission issues but it did have a cracked exhaust manifold and a worn out serpentine belt.

Bob,

Thanks for the report. That's not bad. A car hauler is probably pulling a three car trailer and working it hard.

I use mine to tow almost all my miles and this is by far MUCH better then my 2001. I love to be able to shift with the tap of a button and the EB is a huge plus. I only wish the EB button was on the steering wheel or something so its more convenient to turn on and off.

I tow steady with mine, the only thing I wish were different is the closed throttle downhshift. it can be harsh, I find that I take it out of tow/haul regularly, which shuts it off.

The engine brake is great!!!

only ordered the auto because I didn't like the gearing of the standard. If 3:42 gears become an option for '08, it will be a hard choice ... trade or not !

the 6 speed auto is a great transmission !!!

Thanks for the replies. It is rare for a completely new product to hit the market with apparently no complaints. I hope the owner satisfaction continues as the miles and abuse add up. I'm sure that if any problems do occur we'll read about it on the TDR.

I just got done pulling my Old heavy 26' TT camper home, can't get the smile off my face. I love it. I may take the breaks off my dodge if it keeps this up. They may out last the 6. 7.

my poor 03 I had huffed and puffed up the hills in South MO.

Paul,

The method for determining the precise time is a secret and too complex to post anyway. I consulted with NASA scientists and used a telescope to monitor the position of the moon and stars.

Nahh, just bsing you. It just happened that way.
