Just a little something I discovered the other day.

I was getting off the interstate in tow/haul mode going about 65 mph I wished that my truck would downshift like my buddies Power Stroke does so I thought I'd try to help it out a little.

So I pulled it down from "D" to "2" and to my surprise it went from 4th with TQ locked to 3rd gear and with a lil' tap of the go padal it locked the converter and continued to slow down to about 50 mph then it down shifted again to 2nd and with another lil' tap of the go padal it locked the converter and continued to slow down to about 25 then it went to neutral just like it always does.

I was wondering if this would be a good way to use this thing with a exaust brake ? What do you guys think?



Oh yeah my truck is a 05 without any mods .
 
The 48 RE requires electrical modifications to be use full with an exhaust brake, then it will stay in lockup all the way down to about 25 without having to shift or play with the fuel pedal.

You're right, but the downshifts occur at lower speeds than KSHall indicates with his method, 4 to 3 at 45 mph, release at about 20. I haven't tried his technique yet, and am not sure I will, but it seems that this would give a bit of extra braking with the Jake. Keeping the T/C locked up is key to a functioning ex. brake.

The problem is that every time you touch the throttle you turn off the exhaust brake and have to allow it to reset itself... ...

There are several kits that offer this feature with the purchase of an exhaust brake... . and they function well, and interface well... .

Interesting but why not just tap the T/H button?

You would go from 4th locked to 3rd locked when you engage T/H on a decell like that and also as you slow even more, 2nd will come sooner too.
